Bandera ISD is a 4-Day instrucitonal district (Mon-Thurs.) Start Date: Immediate Required Qualifications and Skills: * Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
* Valid Texas Certification in the area of visual impairment education.
* Experience teaching students with visual impairments.
* Strong knowledge of Braille, low vision aids, and adaptive technology.
* Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities: * Curriculum Development and Adaptation: Creating and adapting lesson plans and materials to meet the unique needs of students with visual impairments.
This includes providing Braille or large-print materials and utilizing assistive technology.
* Specialized Instruction: Teaching academic and compensatory skills, including Braille, orientation and mobility (O&M) skills, and the use of assistive technology.
* Assessment and Evaluation: Conducting functional vision evaluations, learning media assessments, and monitoring student progress to adjust instruction.
* Collaboration and Consultation: Working with general education teachers, parents, specialists, and other professionals to ensure students receive comprehensive support and participate in IEP meetings.
* Promoting Independence: Supporting students in developing skills and strategies to become more independent in various settings, including school, home, and the community.
* Technology Integration: Providing instruction and support in the use of assistive technology, such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, and other specialized equipment.
* Advocacy: Advocating for the needs and rights of students with visual impairments within the school community.
