Position Summary

The Laboratory Scientist is responsible for conducting scientific testing, analysis, and research within the laboratory to support diagnostic, clinical, and public health objectives. This role involves performing complex laboratory procedures, ensuring accuracy and reliability of results, maintaining quality standards, and contributing to scientific advancements through data interpretation and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Testing & Analysis

Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests on biological, chemical, or environmental samples.

Ensure accuracy, precision, and validity of laboratory results.

Interpret test outcomes and provide scientific input for further investigations.

Research & Development

Participate in research projects and contribute to the development of new testing methods.

Collaborate with senior scientists and public health teams on data-driven studies.

Stay updated with current scientific literature and integrate findings into laboratory work.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

Adhere to laboratory quality control and quality assurance standards.

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA, ISO, CAP, or state guidelines).

Document procedures, observations, and results accurately in laboratory records.

Equipment & Laboratory Operations

Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.

Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate maintenance as needed.

Ensure availability and proper use of laboratory supplies and reagents.

Data Management & Reporting

Record, analyze, and interpret scientific data.

Prepare technical reports, summaries, and presentations.

Contribute to publications or scientific communications as required.

Collaboration & Support

Work closely with laboratory staff, public health officials, and healthcare professionals.

Provide scientific expertise and guidance to support ongoing projects and programs.

Participate in training and mentoring junior staff or interns. Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field required.

Master's degree or higher preferred, especially for research-focused roles.

Experience:

2-4 years of laboratory experience, preferably in clinical, research, or public health settings.

Experience with advanced laboratory techniques and instrumentation is an asset.

Skills & Competencies:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Proficiency with laboratory software, LIMS, and statistical analysis tools.

Knowledge of biosafety protocols and laboratory quality systems.

Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
