Box 67 Lac du Flambeau, WI 54538 Email: Job Announcement Flyer: OF DUTIES: Optometric technicians obtain health histories, administer preliminary tests and/or special tests to patients, prepare examination rooms for Optometrists, and instruct patients in the proper use and care of their contact lenses.

An Optometric Technician uses their strong working knowledge of the optometry industry to address patient inquiries, resolve problems and promote services and products offered by the clinic.

This position will also cross-train with other positions within the optical department.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 1.

Main duties to assist the Optometrist with patient care including: a.

Prepping charts prior to their visit.

b.

Patient work ups, including patient histories to be entered into Peter Christensen Health Centers electronic health records software system.

c.

Acquire visual acuity.

d.

Manual/auto refraction.

e.

Non-contact tonometry f.

Retinal photography g.

OCT h.

Visual field i.

Blood pressure j.

Auxiliary testing k.

Referring patient to ophthalmology and follow up.

l.

Triage patient calls.

m.

Documenting patient information in a timely manner in the electronic health record.

n.

Contact lens instruction o.

Contact lens inventory and ordering p.

Ability to fit glasses and help out with lens selection 2.

Maintains strictest confidentiality according to HIPAA standards and upholds confidentiality working with sensitive patient data.

3.

Independently resolve or recommend solutions to patient vision problems within scope of credentialing.

4.

Perform quality management tasks and verification of eyeglass lenses.

5.

Maintain and manage lab and optical to include ordering lab supplies, frames, eyeglass lenses and contact lenses and work with sales people and lab representatives.

6.

Assist with general office coverage to include answering the telephone, transferring calls, transfer of data requests, taking and relaying messages.

7.

Identifies appropriate quality controls for assigned areas of responsibility and ensures that monitoring, as well as, process improvement is occurring.

8.

Assist in developing departmental policies as necessary.

: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Optician certification required, e.g.

American Board of Opticianry.

Paraoptometric Assistant or Technician certification preferred, e.g.

AOA.

Associates or Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.

At least two years of related optometry/vision care required.

NCLE, ABO and CPO certifications required.
