Description:

The Assistant Coach in any sport supports and advances the mission of FCS by providing leadership, supervision, and coaching instruction. Responsibilities may include supervising teams at various school levels. Reports directly to the Head Coach.

Assistant Coach Responsibilities:

Provide Christian leadership and coaching to all players

Provide instruction in all phases of the game

Work with FCS student-athletes to improve personal and teamwork skills

Provide guidance and encouragement to help students profit from their participation

Maintain compliance with Fredericksburg Christian School, VCAC and Virginia Independent School Athletic Association (VISAA) rules, regulations, and policies that pertain to athletic programs

Promote the proper use and care of school property

Communicate effectively with the team, staff, parents, administration, community, and the media

Participate in athletic department fund-raisers

Be knowledgeable of, monitor, and maintain compliance with applicable health and safety practices

Maintain an acceptable attendance record and is punctual

Requirements

Committed Christian with a close personal walk with the Lord and the Christian character qualities to serve as a role model for young people

Regular in attendance at an evangelical, Protestant church

Commitment to a Biblical lifestyle, not promoting or engaging in premarital, extramarital, transgender, or homosexual behavior

If married, a solid commitment based on Mark 10:9 and positive marital relationship

Strong commitment to Christian education

Previous head coaching experience at the high school or club level preferred

Playing experience required (if assistant coach, this is preferred, not required)

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including effective listening skills

Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive environment

Working knowledge about athletic program regulations

Skillfully manage individual, group, and organizational interactions

Averts problem situations and intervenes to resolve conflicts

Exercises self-control and perseverance when dealing with students

Must be CPR/AED certified or willing to complete certification shortly after hire

Teachable, servant spirit
