Description:
The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.
Work requires a professional level of knowledge of nursing practice and theory generally acquired by completion and graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
Work requires two to three months of unit-specific orientation and on-the-job training to learn department policies, procedures, and work routines.
The training aims to develop proficiency in the use of medical equipment and instruments used on the assigned unit.
Incumbent will learn nursing care and quality assurance standards.
An understanding of the types of patients cared for on the unit, their needs, and effective nursing interventions is required.
Work requires the interpersonal skills necessary to comfort patients, family members, and significant others.
Effective and concise communication with other patient care providers is essential.
The ability to instruct patients and significant others in self-care and home care procedures is required.
Analytical ability is necessary to assess patients' physical, psychological, and social needs.
The incumbent will develop individualized patient plans of care and evaluate patients' responses to medical and nursing interventions.
