Description

Performs a variety of housekeeping, limited repair, and landscaping duties in the maintenance of County buildings, and facilities. Directs custodial staff in daily duties. Works a forty (40) hour week. May require overtime.

Examples of Duties

Schedules, organizes, directs and reviews the work of custodial staff. Ensures custodial duties are adequately covered during vacations and/or other absences.

Recommends disciplinary action, hiring, and firing of subordinates.

Coordinates the procurement of supplies, materials, tools and equipment.

Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including accident/incident reports, budget documents, payroll documents, invoices, vehicle maintenance reports, purchase requisitions, performance appraisals, work orders/reports, inventory reports, correspondence, etc.

Sweeps, strips, mops, and vacuums floor surfaces.

Seals and buffs tile and wood floors.

Cleans walls, woodwork, lights fixtures and empties trash receptacles.

Replaces bottled water containers in dispensers as required.

Moves furniture, prepares rooms for scheduled programs and activities, and cleans up after scheduled events.

Assists in making repairs to building fixtures and landscaping, custodial, and janitorial equipment and replaces light bulbs as necessary.

Performs landscaping work and various other tasks in maintaining grounds surrounding assigned buildings.

Secures assigned buildings at the end of the workday, locks doors, and activates security systems.

Completes all written documentation related to job functions.

Typical Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by two (2) years related experience in custodial work including the operation of floor buffing equipment and two (2) years supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid State Driver's License.

Special Requirement:

Incumbent will be required to pass NCSO Level 2 security clearance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed across a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, including office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities and public spaces.

Employee may be exposed to cleaning agents, dirt, dust, grime, fumes, odors, as well as occasional contact with biohazards or waste materials.

Noise from equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers and other custodial machinery may be present.
