Description:

Position Purpose: Working under the direct supervision of the pharmacist(s), the pharmacy technician assists in all pharmacy operations' functions related to: (1) preparation & distribution of all doses of medication; (2) maintenance of drug inventories (e.g., re-stocking automated dispensing cabinets throughout the hospital, drug packaging/re-packaging, extemporaneous compounding, code cart re-stock, etc); and, (3) maintains appropriate records as guided per pharmacy policy. Pharmacy technicians do not perform duties that can only be legally performed by a registered pharmacist or PharmD.

Position Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma required (or equivalent) ; college-level courses desirable. Successful completion of a certified pharmacy technician training program preferred; Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam (or a Pharmacy Technician Exam approved by the MS State Board of Pharmacy) as required by the MS State Board of Pharmacy; current Registration with the MS Board of Pharmacy as required by the MS State Board of Pharmacy; or holds a current Pharmacy Intern/Extern license from the MS State Board of Pharmacy.

Experience: (Preferred) One or more years of experience in a hospital or healthsystem

Licenses/Certificates: The following registrations are required as per the MS State Board of Pharmacy: Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT); Pharmacy Technician Registration in MS; Pharmacy Intern/Extern license in MS. Basic Life Support (BLS) certified (or must obtain within one year of hire date).

Skills:

Computer: Input data into computer programs. Able to navigate through computer programs such as Word, Excel, & Outlook (preferred) ; ability to learn and execute pharmacy order entry computer program. Effectively able to use computers to increase efficiency in performing practice responsibilies.

Communication: Effective, professional, and positive communication skills; clear, concise, and correct written, verbal, telephone communication. Organizational: Must be able to organize and prioritize

Equipment: Must be able to learn general office equipment (e.g. printer, fax) as well as pharmacy specific equipment (e.g. packager, automated dispensing cabinets, etc.) Professionalism: conduct, dress, language, and manner expected
