Definition

Under general supervision, is responsible for developing and maintaining close liaison between neighborhood communities in an assigned area; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)

Provides, compiles, and disseminates information in the community concerning City governmental programs; utilizes various social media channels to disseminate information;

Attends commission and civic organization meetings within an assigned area of the City to provide information and technical assistance regarding various City government services and operations;

Interacts with officials in City departments to provide or obtain information and to discuss possible solutions to community problems or complaints concerning the delivery of government services;

Provides explanations of ordinances, rules, and regulations of the City, state, or federal government which affect local communities;

Compiles and maintains information files on government services and City/community activities or problems;

Initiates appropriate actions to respond to complaints or inquiries for information from City officials, community leaders, and the general public; prepares correspondence under own signature;

Develops community awareness campaigns including newsletters, brochures, and presentation materials;

Makes presentations before civic groups to explain various City government programs and services;

Coordinates and organizes meetings as needed with neighborhood/community groups and City officials;

Provides technical assistance to neighborhood task forces in establishing new area commissions;

Assists in developing or updating operating manuals and/or organizational policies;

Assists in the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers;

Prepares reports and maintains necessary records;

Performs miscellaneous tasks and special projects as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a bachelor’s degree. Substitution(s): Experience in social work, community or urban development, or public relations may be substituted for four (4) years of the required college education on a year-for-year basis.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 50% assessing Reading Comprehension, Logic and Reasoning, English Usage, Grammar & Punctuation, Public Relations/Customer Service, and Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint 2019/2021; and a written work sample weighted 50% assessing Written Communication, Community Relations, and Microsoft Word.

Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.

All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
