Job DescriptionIn this position, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operational support of water metering systems and related infrastructure within the service area. The role involves reading meters, diagnosing system performance, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and ensuring accurate reporting and customer service. This field-based position requires outdoor labor, technical proficiency, and direct customer interaction to ensure efficient delivery of water services.Responsibilities:
Install, maintain, and repair residential and commercial water meters, including connecting/disconnecting services and addressing leaks or pressure issues
Read and record water usage using manual and automated (AMR/AMI) equipment; investigate abnormal consumption patterns and ensure data accuracy.
Perform diagnostics and repairs on meter boxes, tops, and automated reading devices; maintain reliable system connectivity.
Respond to customer inquiries and complaints with professionalism, and complete assigned work orders efficiently.
Participate in on-call rotation and support departmental operations with additional duties as directed by the Meter Maintenance Manager.
Qualifications and Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required, with at least 1 year of maintenance experience; prior work with water meters or distribution systems .
Proficient in basic computer operations, including Customer Information Systems (CIS); strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physically capable of performing outdoor manual labor, lifting up to 50 pounds, and navigating service areas using maps and landmarks.
Must hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and be able to obtain Ft. Benning Badge Access.
CPR and First Aid certification required within one year of hire; knowledge of AMR/AMI systems and water meter reading practices .
