Speech Language Pathologist Rehabilitation team members are licensed or certified professionals (Speech Language Pathologists), who work within a specific team structure to offer inpatient rehabilitation services. These services are offered primarily to the acute-care James Cancer Hospital CCCT. Primary patient population served will be the CCCT oncology patient sites for patients who have disorders and conditions associated primarily with oncology resulting in disorders involving brain, spinal cord injury, stroke, or other neurogenic disorders, orthopedic problems, amputations, or chronic pain. The oncology rehabilitation team members report to rehabilitation manager, and team leaders as assigned, as part of the overall Rehabilitation Services Division structure. The staff Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) evaluates and treats patients primarily within The James Cancer Hospital. Patients served have deficits associated with cancer or the treatment thereof. Rehabilitation needs may be related to concomitant disorders including but not limited to neurological, gastroenterological, orthopedic, and cardiopulmonary etiologies. Cross-coverage within other rehabilitation services departments may be arranged depending on service needs. The SLP works as part of an interdisciplinary team, including physical therapy and occupational therapy within the rehabilitation services department.
This position works under the direct supervision of the Rehabilitation Services Manager and follows all applicable local, state, and national laws and regulations set forth for the practice of Speech-Language Pathologists. Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited Speech-Language Pathology educational program. State of Ohio licensure as an Speech-Language Pathologist and Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association are required. Preferred candidates will have a minimum of one year of experience working in the hospital setting as an SLP.
Minimum Education Required:
Master's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in speech & hearing science.
Required Qualifications:
A Master's degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Certification of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and Ohio Licensure in Speech Pathology required. Those completing a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY/SLP) may be considered. Typically, one-two years experience working in a medical setting is preferred.
