Job Title: Buyer – Submarines

We are currently recruiting for a Buyer to join our Electrical Supply Chain team for Rolls-Royce Submarines team based in Derby. This role provides a service across the Submarines business focusing on design, procurement and implementation of complex design & manufacturing packages of work within the supply chain.
The role will be responsible for the development and implementation of external supplier and commodity strategies that will drive long-term improvements in quality, cost and delivery. These supplier relationships will drive the competitive and commercial performance of Rolls-Royce, its customers and suppliers.
Operating within the supply chain management team, the role will have exposure to full product/service life cycle, ensuring supplier commercial issues are resolved effectively and efficiently. Due to this, you will get exposure to both the engagement and creation of new supplier/procurement relationships as well as in contract management. The role will also be responsible for the management of work queue, including the sourcing of products/services, raising and management of all purchase documents within the purchasing systems.

What you will be doing:
Lead and co-ordinate supplier relationships and strategies within the designated external supply chain.
Monitor and manage supplier performance.
Understanding of Business Continuity Management within the supply chain and management of supply chain risk
Responsible for the creation and/or deployment of appropriate cost models and contracting strategies for designated commodities/services/products taking into account the total cost of acquisition
Development and delivery of agreed financial commitments, including cost savings and spend.
Consultation on the deviation of supplier cost performance against agreed targets.
Utilise the purchasing system (SAP) in an optimal way to maximise internal transactional efficiency, minimising total costs.
Contribute to improvement and share best practice across supply chain and procurement teams.

Membership of CIPS, or studying towards the qualification is desirable.
Relevant experience in purchasing/supply chain management.
Previous experience of working throughout the procurement Lifecyle, from design and tendering process to contract negotiation, in contract management and delivery of service.
Experience of “in contract” supplier relationships, including SLA, quality, cost and delivery management.
Ideally the successful candidate will have previous experience working on high value design projects.
Experience in SAP (purchasing module) is essential.
Possess understanding of manufacturing processes and the cost drivers, as well as total cost of acquisition impact.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place.
