Job Title: Site Safety & Health Officer Job Description We are seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to support a major USACE Pump Station Project, contributing to the Florida Everglades restoration.
The SSHO will be integral in maintaining a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with government regulations and corporate policies.
Responsibilities + Direct and administer specific functions of the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) program at the company or project level.
+ Create, evaluate, educate, and administer the EHS program for all employee levels.
+ Assist in conducting surveys, evaluations, inspections, and investigations of incidents and activities as directed by supervision.
+ Gather information and correlate data as directed.
+ Perform field training when necessary.
+ Refine working knowledge of EHS programs by applying EHS procedures.
+ Develop and maintain project safety files.
+ Direct and supervise the activities of subordinates when requested.
+ Participate in monitoring and controlling EHS standards.
+ Prepare, maintain, and retrieve records, reports, or documents to meet corporate or regulatory requirements, including monitoring the application of EHS standards.
+ Promote EHS awareness and foster this awareness throughout the company, project, or office.
+ Communicate with the Project Manager, subcontractors, and the owner regarding health and safety.
Essential Skills + Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience on projects of similar size and scope.
+ Completion of OSHA 30-hour training.
+ Strong understanding of Pre-Task Planning.
+ CHST Certification or Licensed Site Safety Manager/Site Safety Coordinator.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
+ Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
+ Ability to read and interpret construction specifications and blueprints.
+ Strong working knowledge of construction trades means, methods, equipment, and tools.
+ Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact professionally with various stakeholders.
+ Accountability, dependability, excellent decision-making/problem-solving skills, and discretion.
Additional Skills & Qualifications + SFWMD and USACE experience or similar government experience is a plus.
+ Basic math, statistics, and accounting skills.
+ Valid state driver's license.
+ Competent knowledge in Fall Protection, Confined Space, Excavation & Trenching, Scaffolding, Hazardous Energy Control (LOTO), and Rigging cranes.
+ OSHA 500 certification is preferred.
Work Environment The role is based in a construction site environment, working in a 5-7 person team alongside the Project Manager, QC Manager, Project Engineers, Superintendent, and Admin Assistant.
The position requires wearing a hard hat, steel-toe boots, work pants, company shirt, safety vest, and gloves.
Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8-10 hours per day in a salaried position.
Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Bay, Florida.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $50.48/hr.
