Primary Function: This essential position performs Fire Alarm Technician services requiring a high degree of skill and precision.
In addition, performs lead worker duties over assigned junior technicians and temporary workers on an as-needed basis, as determined by the Facilities Management staff.
The position is responsible for performing duties in accordance with established organizational policies and procedures of the institution and the department.
Position must adhere to all safety and regulatory guidelines and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
Supports the mission of the University and the department, including receptivity to new initiatives as may be set forth by the Office of Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability (OESS). The position may also require the understanding and safe operation of man-lift equipment.
This position receives general supervision.
Broad instructions are provided, and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out assignments.
Completed assignments and finished products are reviewed by the supervisor after completion.
Position Appointment Details: * Career Band: NE10 * Full-Time Typical Duties & Responsibilities: * Install, maintain, and troubleshoot fire alarm systems, as well as connected systems such as backflows, sprinklers, and access controls.
Other duties may include repairing emergency lighting and exit signage, assisting electricians, and working with the local fire department, performing routine fire drills.
* Coordinate and work with various contractors to support weekly, monthly, and annual inspections on all life safety systems, such as fire alarm, backflow, sprinkler, and hood systems.
* Perform routine monthly inspections on all University buildings while maintaining an inspection report that can be reviewed by state and local officials.
* Surveys assigned jobs and ensures that sufficient and proper materials and tools are on hand to complete each day's work.
* Performs various related work, duties, and tasks as assigned or required; directs and trains assigned helpers; guides subordinates and supplemental labor.
Direct sequence of work and assigns individual tasks as necessary.
* Operates and works from man lifts to access work areas as necessary.
* Provide detailed instructions and directions for temporary workers.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Department, including emergency work when required.
* Participate in an on-call rotation schedule that provides 24-hour coverage for service requests and emergencies related to the campus infrastructure.
* Assist other tradesmen as needed on special projects and during emergencies.
* Overtime or call-out work may be required from time to time outside of the on-call rotation.
Judgement Required: Prescribed, established procedures are primarily used to perform the essential functions of this position.
Budgetary Responsibility: None Machines & Equipment Used: All necessary tools and equipment for the specified trades and tasks, which may include aerial lifts, forklifts, pallet jacks, and mixed types of ladders.

Experience: * Must have a minimum of three years of experience or training in the painting & plastering trades.
Six + years of experience preferred.
