Key Responsibilities

Care Delivery

Provide high-quality, person-centred care to residents/service users, ensuring dignity, choice, and independence are respected.

Assist with personal care needs (washing, dressing, toileting, feeding, mobility support).

Support service users with daily activities and encourage participation in social and recreational opportunities.

Administer or support with medication in line with policy and training.

Monitor, record, and report changes in residents' physical, emotional, or mental health.

Leadership & Supervision

Act as shift leader when required, delegating tasks to care assistants and ensuring smooth running of the shift.

Supervise, mentor, and support junior carers; provide guidance and encourage professional development.

Conduct handovers between shifts, ensuring accurate communication of residents' needs.

Ensure new staff are inducted and supported in line with organisational procedures.

Documentation & Compliance

Maintain accurate care records, charts, and reports in line with confidentiality and regulatory standards.

Assist in care planning and risk assessments, updating when necessary.

Ensure compliance with health & safety, safeguarding, and infection control policies.

Participate in audits and inspections, supporting quality improvement initiatives.

Teamwork & Communication

Work collaboratively with nurses, healthcare professionals, and family members.

Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the wider care team.

Report any safeguarding concerns immediately in line with procedures.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (or working towards).

Experience in a care environment, ideally in a supervisory or senior role.

Medication administration training (or willingness to undertake).

Knowledge of CQC standards and care sector regulations.

Desirable

First Aid, Moving & Handling, and Safeguarding training.

Experience of leading a team or acting as shift leader.

Experience working with dementia or other specialist needs.

Personal Qualities

Compassionate, patient, and empathetic.

Strong leadership and teamworking skills.

Ability to remain calm under pressure and make decisions.

Good communication skills (verbal and written).

Commitment to continuous professional development.
