Summary: Switzerland County School Corporation is seeking to employ a Dean of Students.
Grade levels 7-12 will employ one Dean of Students to cover the middle school and high school.
This position will be supported by a building principal and counselor.
The 7-12 Dean of Students will transition between buildings by developing a schedule with the building principals.
General Responsibilities: * The Dean of Students assists with the daily operation of the school, specifically in the areas of attendance, behavioral, and disciplinary prevention and intervention services.
Other activities and responsibilities may be delegated by the building principal.
* Assist in the implementation of policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to student behavior and attendance.
* Assist in maintaining discipline throughout the student body and participates in disciplinary hearings when applicable.
* Address bus behavior referrals and maintain appropriate documentation.
* Assist teachers with behavior management plans and strategies.
* Work with student services staff in providing guidance and motivation for student success and in collaboratively developing plans for students who struggle.
* Coordinate and facilitate restorative practices approach to discipline and serves as a liaison with coordinators in other buildings to support a systematic approach.
* Communicate with students, parents, and staff in a timely manner regarding student behavior and attendance.
* Serves as administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal.
* Anything else deemed necessary by the superintendent or school administrative team.
Additional Job Functions: * Maintain a commitment to learning about best practices in student management and attendance.
* Attend special meetings to engage in conversations involving student behavior and attendance.
* Participate in professional growth to improve skills related to the job assignment.
* Perform supervision of students during unstructured times such as before and after school, during passing times and during lunch periods.
* As a member of the elementary administrative team assists with recess duty.
* As a member of the high school administrative team, assist with supervision of special events/athletics.
* Make recommendations concerning the revision and updating of student code of conduct, rules, regulations, and handbooks.
* Assist in the classroom/classroom coverage if/when needed.
* Perform such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct, including entry of behavior events in the student information system, and producing and sending documentation related to behavior events to families as required by policy or statute.
* Ability to prepare and make effective presentations promoting programs within the school * Professional experience/willingness to oversee committees * Ability to analyze data regarding the effectiveness of programs and initiatives within the school.
Ideal Qualifications & Skills: * Preferred but not required, Master's degree in Education Leadership.
* Administrative license not required.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to work well with administration, teachers, students, and parents.
* General knowledge of restorative justice theory and practice.
Environment & Physical demands: * Indoor office and outdoor environment.
* Continuous contact with staff, students, and the public.
* Work involves frequent disruptions of daily schedule.
* The person in this position must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine and computer printer.
* The person in this position must be able to exchange accurate information with such individuals.
Salary and compensation: * Teacher salary based on placement with a corporation teacher of equivalent years of service and degree.
* Stipend to be paid above and beyond teacher salary.
* Mileage for travel required by the corporation when the corporation vehicle is not available.
* Benefits eligible to all certified teaching staff per the certified bargaining agreement.
