JOB TITLE: Counselor Trainee / Full-time
LOCATION: Hohenwald Main
SCHEDULE: Mon - Fri; 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Interviews client, reviews records, and confers with other professionals to evaluate condition of client.
Conducts assessment of the bio-psychosocial needs of client, and develops Master Treatment Plan goals and objectives based on that assessment, along with the client's input.
Re-assesses treatment goals/objectives on regular intervals, measuring progress or lack of. Documents information on ASAM clinical review form, adhering to predetermined time frames.
Establishes criteria for discharge based on client goals/objectives and progress made to reach these goals. Documents the client's participation in this process.
Counsels clients individually and in group sessions to assist client in overcoming alcohol and drug dependency, including didactic lectures as scheduled.
Conducts weekly therapy sessions with clientele, assisting them in developing a recovery foundation through making healthy choices.
Counsels family members to assist family in dealing with and providing healthy support for client. Works to engage family members in therapy process by providing opportunities for family conferences.
Conducts phone conferences with referral sources, legal authorities, and other collateral contacts and documents pertinent information in the client record.
Prepares and maintains reports and case histories in accordance with State of Tennessee licensure requirements, Department of Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities/Division of Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Services policies, and BVI quality standards
To meet program needs, must be willing to submit to flexible schedules and duty assignments
CAREER LEVELS:
There are 3 main career levels for counselor at BVI:
TRAINEE - Working towards gaining license as LADAC, less than 1 year of experience working as an Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor, building skills and abilities to be able to carry a "full" caseload (12 residential patients).
COUNSELOR - Working towards gaining license as LADAC, 1 or more years of experience working as an Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor, able to meet all clinical and regulatory standards while maintaining a caseload of 12 residential patients.
LICENSED - Licensed Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC) and able to meet all clinical and regulatory standards while maintaining a full caseload.
The appropriate level is assigned based on the person's experience, licensing (if any) and education.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong computer skills. Ability to type 30 wpm. Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs and Electronic Health Record software
TN licensed Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor or working towards licensure; optional NAADAC certified addiction counselor. If in personal recovery, demonstrable commitment to own recovery; two years of continuous sobriety is desired.
Pass Background Check and Drug Screen, required
Keeps a current CPR and First Aid certifications, required
Valid TN D.L. with "F" endorsement required; can be obtained once hired
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, LADAC or A&D Certification, preferred
One-year minimum experience with addictions, but willing to accept with only addiction experience, preferred
High School Diploma or GED
