Data Architect

Position Summary

The Data Architect plays a key role within the Data Governance team, designing, implementing, and managing the architecture that enables data to be exploited and delivered as a product. This role requires expertise in designing data models, building and optimizing data pipelines, and ensuring governance, security, and compliance standards and policies are met. You will work with the AJISS team to ensure data solutions are scalable, efficient, and meet business needs throughout the data lifecycle—from collection and storage to analysis and disposal.

Your primary responsibility is to design and secure data architectures that ensure data integrity, confidentiality and accessibility across multiple platforms. You will oversee data pipelines, ensure high data quality, and contribute to data-driven decision making while upholding data security and governance standards.

You will collaborate with IT, Innovation, and AJISS teams to create data solutions that optimize data flow, enhance system performance, and ensure regulatory compliance. You will evolve the data architecture to accommodate growing data demands, ensuring governance frameworks are adaptable and scalable.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Data Architecture Design: Design and maintain a scalable data architecture that meets business goals while ensuring security, compliance, and performance; document data structures, data flows, data models, and data quality rules.

Data Integration & Pipeline Management: Collaborate with the AJISS team to integrate data from various sources, ensuring data is accessible, accurate, and aligned with business objectives.

Collaboration: Align data architectures with IT, Innovation, and governance standards; work with AJISS to ensure data integration strategies support business needs and secure data systems.

Technology & Tool Selection: Contribute to evaluating and selecting tools and platforms for data pipelines to support long-term scalability, performance, and security; stay informed on trends to keep systems adaptable.

Security & Monitoring: Design data security protocols (access control, encryption), develop frameworks for monitoring and optimization, and implement dashboards to track health and performance of data systems.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of experience in data architecture, data modeling, data integration, and designing data pipelines.

Expertise in cloud-based platforms, data management, and enterprise application integration.

Knowledge of governance frameworks, data security protocols, and practices to ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and privacy across integrated systems.

Proficiency with modern tools for data integration, pipeline management, and system performance monitoring.

Experience collaborating with IT, Innovation, and data teams (e.g., AJISS) to align data solutions with business objectives; ability to stay current with trends in data architecture and integration technologies.

Undergraduate degree in software engineering, computer science, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a military context; familiarity with enterprise systems/ERPs (e.g., SAP, IBM Maximo); experience with enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF or DNDAF); familiarity with AI techniques and tools.

Special Position Requirements

Hybrid – 3 days a week onsite

Full-time, standard business hours. Some on-site work required in the lab.
