Ohio School Safety Center's Mission

The Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) is a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety who supports all Ohio schools and first responders in preventing, preparing for, and responding to threats and acts of violence, including self-harm, through a holistic, solutions-based approach to improving school safety. Using a cross-disciplinary approach, the OSSC will provide resources to schools to enhance their strategies for safety, and emergency plan development.

Our goal is total commitment in supporting all schools in ensuring the safety of students, employees, and visitors through effective policies and procedures, training, and community and interagency involvement. The OSSC assists public and private Pre-K, K-12, and Higher Education institutions.

***Must acquire and maintain Protected Critical Infrastructure Information (PCII) certification.

Job Skills: Planning and Development

Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio School Safety Center

Report In Location - 1970 W Broad Street, Columbus 43223

Under administrative direction of assigned manager in the Ohio School Safety Center, act as project leader & subject matter expert (SME) to assist in the planning, coordinating, monitoring & assessment of school emergency management plans & tests;

Aid in &/or conduct school security & vulnerability assessments;

Conduct outreach & assessments, review security plans & prepared documents for assigned State/Public/Private facilities &/or properties to include emergency operation plans for compliance with state and federal statutes;

Inform manager & Ohio School Safety Center Executive Director of real &/or potential infrastructure security issues that could adversely affect Ohio schools & higher education institutions

(Public & Private), properties & citizens;

Assist in the development of best practice guides & marketing for emergency management for K-12 & higher education;

Provide research on school safety emergency management exercise & planning best practices for the purpose of information sharing & developing tools for Ohio schools & universities;

Assist with developing & implementing trainings;

Assist with the annual school safety summit development & implementation;

Assist with information gathering for annual school safety reports & quarterly newsletters;

Participate in deployments to the field for events & critical incidents in order to support school safety & security operations;

Support to the overall management, administration & education of the various systems used by Ohio School Safety Center to include the safety plans portal;

Assist with marketing & education of other school safety resources & programs;

Acquire and maintain Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Part 107 license to utilize with the Ohio School Safety Center Drone Program to assist schools with site plan development.

Perform other duties as assigned.
