What You'll Do:

Ohio Department of Public Safety - Director's Office/Communications (Comm. Special Projects)

Report in location: 1970 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43223

Work hours: 8\:00 am - 5\:00pm

Originate electronic designs & coordinate printed communications materials & publications ranging from black & white to full color:

Utilize hyper-text markup language to create & design internet/intranet webpages & websites for all divisions within the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) that will be utilized by internal &/or external customers;

Consult with internal customers to continuously improve online information & communication; Work with divisions to edit & design webpages based on new initiatives, taskforces, laws, etc.;

Electronically designs graphic art, forms, & publications based on rough drafts, verbal descriptions & raw information (i.e., certificates, business cards, recognition programs, plaques, brochures, manuals, license plates, posters, flyers & pamphlets, special displays & exhibits, charts & graphs, web page elements, etc.);

Research & utilize internet & other external resources for photography & graphics; Scan images & text;

Design various division projects in color & black & white using graphic design software (i.e., Dreamweaver, InDesign, Adobe, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) & printers to create finished graphic art;

Transform verbal descriptions into electronic graphic illustrations (i.e., type-face, size of copy & graphics, places computer-generated images to communicate message &/or information);

Complete designs per departmental standards with consideration to accuracy, timelines & cost; Edit final material for accuracy & make revisions as needed;

Discuss & offer ideas to accomplish requests for graphic illustrations; Interview knowledgeable parties to obtain pertinent facts;

Consult with parties to request additional information & receive final approval before finalizing design specifications;

Communicate with customers, printers & web site managers to assure files meet specifications;

Research technology & recommend improvements;

Consult with clients, co-workers, supervisors & external consultants, concerning requested electronic designs;

Prepare electronic camera-ready art for digital output & press printed materials;

Back-up & store all graphics, along with supporting images & fonts, in accordance with departmental stipulations;

Maintain inventory of equipment & supplies within budget limitations;

Maintain files of artwork, records of projects, proofs, & design order statistics;

Provide feedback & recommendations on policy & procedures regarding graphic & web design standards & processes;

Create original photographic images of variety of subjects for use in internal & external publications, portraits, posters, slide shows, video stills, video production, media communications &/or employee communications;

Performs other related duties as assigned.

36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in electronic graphic design; 12 mos. exp. with hyper-text markup language for website/web page design &/or development.

-Or completion of associate core program in graphic visual communication technology or multimedia production technology; 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in website/web page creation, design &/or development.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in visual communications with emphasis on graphic design/industrial design &/or fine arts; 24 mos. trg. or 24 mos. exp. in website/web page creation, design &./or development.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
