Fremont School District 79 is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

Illinois Paraprofessional License

High school diploma or equivalent

Prior experience working with children, preferably in an educational or childcare setting.

Knowledge of, or willingness to be trained in, de-escalation techniques (e.g., CPI), social-emotional learning strategies, and trauma-informed practices.

Willingness to be trained in, and ability to collect, record, and report data to support student progress monitoring and instructional decision-making.

Ability to maintain composure, patience, and professionalism in high-stress situations.

Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting the needs of all learners.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Special Education Paraprofessional provides support to students with diverse learning, social-emotional, and behavioral needs. Working under the direction of a certified teacher, the paraprofessional assists with students' academic, social, emotional, and physical development. This role requires strong skills in verbal de-escalation, emotional regulation, and relationship-building to help students thrive in both general education and special education settings.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support instruction by reinforcing lessons and skills introduced by the teacher.

Implement strategies for self-regulation, verbal de-escalation, and conflict resolution to maintain a safe and supportive environment.

Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, lunchrooms, buses, and other settings as required and requested by the classroom teacher, principal, and assistant principal.

Provide individualized and small-group assistance tailored to student learning and developmental levels.

Assist students with transitions between classes, therapies, and transportation.

Encourage independence during academic work, classroom activities, and interventions.

Participate in collaborative planning with teachers and specialists to meet student goals.

Collect, record, and share observations and data on student performance, behavior, and progress.

Support students during assessments, including accommodations and modifications as directed by the special education teacher.

Assist with classroom organization, preparation of materials, and maintaining a safe, orderly environment.

Attend required trainings and team meetings, including social-emotional learning, trauma-informed practices, and behavior intervention strategies.

Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher(s), principal, and assistant principal.

SALARY & BENEFIT INFORMATION:

$17.50/hour
