The Town is seeking a Utility Line Technician in the Water and Sewer Maintenance department. This position performs skilled work in the installation, repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines. Extended hours are often required for emergency response, to include nights, weekends and holidays.

Rotating On-Call Shifts

Install, maintain, repair and replace utility lines and accessories
Perform water and sewer taps and service connections
Install water meters
Flush sewer lines and manholes
Locate water and sewer lines
Install, test and repair water meters and fire hydrants
Perform routine bacterial and CL2 tests; add necessary chemicals to sewer lines
Perform minor landscaping on property following completion of work
Operate trucks, tractors, back-hoes and mechanical equipment in connection with above tasks
Assist in snow and ice removal
Must report to work in, and wear at all times on the job, steel-toed safety boots of an acceptable standard, effective the first scheduled workday
Perform other duties as required
Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: One (1) year of general work experience required; water and sewer line work experience preferred
Valid Drivers License
CDL Class B with tanker and air brake endorsement required at time of hire or within six (6) months of employment
Flagging certification required within six (6) months of employmentQualifications
Knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer lines
General knowledge of hand and power tools
Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing
Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
Possess organization and multi-tasking skills
Ability to follow directions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, coworkers, and other departments
Ability to work for extended periods of time, often under unfavorable conditions

Work is performed outdoors. The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions to include extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards and atmospheric conditions.

This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus
