Description:

Job Summary:

The role of a Metallurgical Engineer is fundamental in joining and manufacturing processes, where the creation of technical procedures and the use of advanced technologies such as laser welding are crucial. They are responsible for developing and validating technical specifications to ensure the quality and safety of products, mastering cutting-edge technologies to optimize processes and productivity.

Responsibilities:

Creation of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS): Develops and validates WPS, documents that detail how a weld should be performed, leveraging knowledge of materials and properties.

Select appropriate filler materials to ensure strong joints compatible with the base metal.

Define critical welding parameters such as amperage, voltage, travel speed, and shielding gas type to achieve the desired quality.

Specify pre- and post-weld heat treatments to prevent defects.

Oversee qualification tests (tensile, bend, radiographic testing) to ensure compliance with standards (AWS, ASME).

Optimize laser welding processes by adjusting parameters such as power, speed, and beam focus.

Maintain and calibrate laser equipment to ensure proper operation.

Perform failure analysis on welded parts using microscopy and materials analysis techniques.

Diagnose causes of fractures, deformations, or corrosion and propose effective solutions.

Participate in quality control and destructive and non-destructive testing to ensure compliance with specifications.

Validate the Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) to ensure the WPS.

Apply knowledge of physical and process metallurgy to relate composition, structure, and mechanical properties.

Use quality standards such as ASTM, ISO, and DIN in manufacturing processes.

Master advanced technologies such as laser welding to optimize processes.

Perform other assigned tasks related to metallurgical processes and manufacturing.

Requirements:

Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or a related field with relevant experience.

Advanced English (written and spoken) for effective technical communication and understanding of international documentation.

In-depth knowledge of casting and metal forming (casting, forging, rolling, extrusion) and their impact on microstructure and properties.

Mastery of physical and process metallurgy, relating chemical composition, internal structure, and mechanical properties.

Experience in heat and surface treatments (quenching, tempering, annealing, nitriding).

Knowledge of welding and joining processes, weld types, defects, and industrial applications.

Familiarity with standards such as ASTM, ISO, DIN regulating composition, testing, and processes.

Ability to perform failure analysis and propose effective solutions.

Experience in quality control and destructive and non-destructive testing.

Analytical skills for diagnosing problems in metallurgical components.

Knowledge of advanced technologies such as laser welding.

Understanding of relationships between microstructure and mechanical properties of materials.

Ability to work with quality standards and industrial regulations.

Effective communication skills to convey technical specifications.

Ability to optimize metallurgical processes for productivity and quality.

General knowledge of manufacturing processes and their impact on materials.

Knowledge of pumping equipment.

Familiarity with standards: ASTM, ASME SECTION VIII, API 610, API 682, API 697, HIS, AWS.

Knowledge of non-destructive testing.

Ability to interpret manufacturing drawings of metal-mechanical parts.

Analytical capability.

Ability to present professional-level reports.
