Local Title: ELECTRICIAN II

State Title: Electrician

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB GOAL:

To provide skilled work in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited high school or trade school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.

Four (4) years' experience as an electrician, journeyman preferred. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the standard and codes, methods, tools, and materials associated with the electrical trade. Knowledge of the principals and theories of electricity. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions of the trade. Ability to install, alter, upgrade, repair, maintain, and locate defects in a variety of electrical equipment and systems. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to interpret and work from technical sketches, blueprints, and service manuals. Skilled in the use and care of standard tools and equipment used in the electrical trade. Ability to work at various heights to complete necessary jobs. Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.

Supervisor, Mechanical Systems

SUPERVISES:

N/A

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain and repair electrical equipment and appliances.

Repair or replace electrical motors, controllers, switchboard panels, and lights.

Locate and correct power failures and motor trouble on electrically operated machinery and apparatus.

Set transformers and poles.

Install electrical additions and alterations, as required.

Work with blueprints and service manuals.

Maintain records of daily work and record accurate time and payroll information.

Follow safety standards in performing work and report unsafe conditions to Lead/Manager in a timely manner.

May be required to work after hours and/or weekends.

Travel outside of Manatee County as required in the performance of duties.

Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The employee is exposed to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee frequently will work irregular or extended work hours while performing the duties of this job. Requires lifting, holding, carrying, sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. The noise level in the work environment can be high at times. Safety is the highest priority.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
