Job Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician II (Position #2104) Salary: Pay Grade PS16, Hiring Rate: $48,048 Provisions of Personnel Ordinance for promotion/demotion/transfer Work Schedule: 7:30 am - 3:30 pm; Monday-Friday. This position has been determined to be non-exempt under the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma (or GED equivalent) required with vocational/technical school training and a minimum of five to seven years practical experience as a mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and/or maintenance engineer with supervisory experience (or similar); or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Ability to become POST Correctional Officer certified within the probationary period is required. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Drivers License. May be required to possess and maintain Universal Freon Certification.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB: Under limited supervision, directs work crews which are composed of inmates. Assigns work and delegates specific activities and assignments. Reports to the Director of Construction and Maintenance. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of light and heavy equipment, machines and tools, etc. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten pounds frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of twenty to one hundred fifty pounds. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: ALL FUNCTIONS MAY NOT BE PERFORMED BY ALL INCUMBENTS Supervises and directs inmates, handling inmates' concerns and problems, assigns and oversees work; counsels and disciplines as needed. Ensures the completion of work projects and assignments, tracks progress; checks for errors; ensures adherence to specific County work-related safety procedures and policies. Communicates with the Department Director; provides a daily update of departmental activities and the status of certain projects. Operates various equipment and tools associated with construction trades; operates a variety of tools and machinery related to repairing and maintaining systems, including electric systems; operates equipment associated with correctional institute, including automatic door locks, gates, cameras, and fire security equipment. Oversees, coordinates, and assists in performing construction and maintenance projects involving carpentry, block laying, painting, plumbing, gas lines, electrical wiring systems, HVAC systems, etc.; maintains pneumatic control systems. Installs and maintains fire protection systems, sprinklers, pumps and alarm systems. Installs and maintains HVAC systems, chilled water and refrigeration equipment, ice machines, appliances, and related equipment; maintains computerized air condition controls; repairs boilers, hot water systems, and hot water mixing valves. May perform freon recovery, in compliance with EPA guidelines. Ensures preventive maintenance programs are established and maintained; repairs or directs repairs as needed.

Maintains logs, reports, and records of work activities. Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, State inspectors, outside contractors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
