PACO Group, Inc. (PACO) is seeking a dedicated and experienced full-time Qualified Elevator Inspector with 5-10 years of experience to join our team on a critical project for the MTA. This project involves the replacement of 37 elevators at key NYC subway stations, ensuring compliance with MTA standards and enhancing the safety and reliability of our transit infrastructure. The field office for this project is located by Atlantic Terminal, providing an excellent base for managing inspections across multiple station sites.

Responsibilities:

Inspection & Quality Assurance:

Perform inspections, testing, and audits of elevators, escalators, and related conveyance equipment in MTA facilities.

Ensure compliance with ASME A17.1/CSA B44, ASME A17.2, ASME A17.3, NFPA codes, NYC Building Code, and other relevant federal, state, and local requirements.

Review maintenance records, modernization plans, and contractor submittals for adherence to safety and performance standards.

Provide technical reports, deficiency lists, and compliance recommendations, including corrective actions and deadlines.

Coordinate with MTA operations, contractors, and engineering teams to schedule inspections, witness tests, and resolve issues.

Support incident investigations and prepare findings for safety committees.

Maintain detailed documentation and electronic records in accordance with QEI and MTA protocols.

Commissioning Tasks:

Manage all commissioning tasks outlined in the Technical Scope of Services to place elevators into service in accordance with the project schedule.

Achieve, validate, test, and document the performance of installed elevators and their integrated components and systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, design intent, and specifications.

Lead and manage the commissioning team-including representatives from the Design-Build Contractor, subcontractors, and various MTA C&D units-to ensure that all steps in the commissioning process are completed successfully.

Prepare and submit test procedures, performance curves, test report forms, O&M manuals, and other required data in accordance with the project specifications.

Review arrangement drawings to confirm the accessibility and maintainability of all equipment, recommending changes as necessary.

Technical Support & Continuous Improvement:

Provide expert technical support during project meetings by offering insights into compliance challenges and best practices for MTA projects.

Stay current with changes in MTA regulations, elevator technology, and industry trends to continuously enhance inspection and commissioning practices.

Required Qualifications:

Current QEI certification (Qualified Elevator Inspector) in good standing.

5-10 years of direct MTA or large metropolitan transit system experience, covering elevators, escalators, and vertical transportation equipment.

Expert knowledge of ASME A17.1/CSA B44, ASME A17.2, and related safety and building codes (NFPA, NYC DOB, ADA, OSHA).

Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems used in transit-grade elevator and escalator equipment.

Proficiency with digital inspection tools, reporting software, and standard office applications.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear, concise reporting and coordination.

Key Skills and Abilities:

Familiarity with MTA capital projects, maintenance management systems, and safety certification processes.

Exceptional attention to detail and a strong analytical mindset for identifying and addressing technical and safety issues.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly document inspection findings and interact effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Strong organizational skills to manage multiple inspections and commissioning tasks across various subway station sites concurrently.

Experience with modernization and new installation projects.

Ability to mentor junior inspectors and provide in-field technical guidance.

Required Qualifications:

Previous experience working on large-scale MTA projects or other transit-related elevator replacement and commissioning initiatives.

Experience in delivering O&M manuals and training materials.
