SUMMARY
The Language Technician with Mentee Duties, under the supervision of the Language Coordinator, is responsible for completing an individualized language learning plan, assists in the creation of language teaching materials, the development of a language archive, the dispersal of language materials to members of the community, and maintains an active role in all of the Language & Culture Department's events and projects. The Language Technician with Mentee Duties will also provide support to community members learning to use digital applications in relation to language learning. Hours for this position will include several evenings and weekends for workshops, camps and large scale community-wide celebrations. Travel will be required with this position.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) required and one(1) year of experience
Demonstrated living knowledge of Anishinabek traditions
Familiarity with Anishinabek language and culture
Proficient use of audio and visual capture technology
Experience working with Apple products and mobile applications
Experience working with youth and families
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:
Devising, implementing and completing an individualized language learning plan in collaboration with the Language Coordinator
Assist in the planning, preparation, and implementation of the Language/Culture Coordinators during workshops, camps, classes and large scale community events
Developing and maintaining a language data base
Assist Language/Culture Coordinator with activities for preservation of resource materials including research, collection and duplication of printed and video/autotaped materials and digitizing of materials, in cooperation with appropriate Tribal staff, committees and partners
Encourage and support participation by the Tribal community in educational and preservation activities
Oversee data collection process related to project evaluation
Attend Tribal, state and national level meetings, as required
Function as part of the Department by covering office duties as needed and interacting with Citizens in both formal and informal settings, building relationships and trust
Enhance personal language skills and knowledge
Obtains training in language preservation and education, at the direction of Language/Culture Director
Help to create, promote and maintain a supportive and nurturing learning environment
Maintain confidentiality of all files and accounts of the Language/Culture Program
Recognizes and is sensitive to the cultural dimension inherent in Native American communities
Participate in community events as required

Ability to understand, respect and value the Pottawatomi language and culture

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Occasional non-traditional hours including working evenings and weekends as assigned
Ability and willingness to travel for work assignments, meetings and continuing education
