TITLE: Head Bus Mechanic - Transportation JOB STATUS: FLSA Overtime Eligible REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Transportation DEPARTMENT: Business Operations POSITION SUMMARY: To keep the district's vehicles in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: * A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent.
* A proficiency in repair & maintenance of buses, trucks, and other fleet equipment.
* Six years of mechanic experience.
* Excellent communications skills and the ability to interact in a professional manner.
* A suitable dressed, neat and clean appearance.
* Physical capability of appropriately lifting and managing equipment.
* Being physically qualified (Rule 3301-83-07 of Ohio Administrative Code). * Ohio School Bus Driver's License, Class B-SP Endorsement Commercial Driver's License.
* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: * Performs the diagnosis and repair of district fleet equipment.
* Maintains a current inventory of supplies and equipment.
* Assists District Fleet Head in establishing an efficient and effective system of routine fleet maintenance and preventive care.
* Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the maintenance, repair and operation of equipment and machines [OSHA]. * Maintains records of all maintenance and repair work.
* Maintains high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas.
* Reports all conditions that present safety hazards on buses and other automotive equipment immediately to the Coordinator of Transportation.
* Reports all accidents as soon as practical and completes required reports.
* Attends all mandatory departmental in-service meetings.
* Assists District Fleet Head with the coordination of all maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles.
* Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the storage, use and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste and hazardous material [OSHA]. * Ensures the safety of students.
* Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
* Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district.
* Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
* Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings.
* Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values.
* Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
* Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 261 days (251 work days and 10 paid holidays); 8 hours per day, excluding lunch; number of days of vacation, holidays and salary as determined by Negotiated Agreement.
Work year to be established by the Board.
SALARY: starting hourly rate: $28.50/HR.
- $32.27/HR.
