Job Description

Job Function: To effectively perform the duties of Quality Control Technician in an efficient manner according to company policies and procedures. To ensure that all relevant product testing is performed consistently and recorded accurately, and to comprehensively communicate any deviations in product quality and in implementation of company food safety GMP policies. To ensure that all work performed contributes to the best financial interests of Transpacific and the safe quality production of food products.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific:

Timely and accurate completion and routing of all QC/QA documentation.

Collect samples from all incoming raw materials, perform raw material analytical and microbiological testing, and report results to Quality Assurance Manager.

Perform all batching and finished goods quality testing as required throughout the day. Accurately document results in a timely manner.

Verify all product meets company and customer specifications. Notify supervisor immediately of any out-of-specification results.

Monitor and verify all GMP’s are being followed daily. Report any deviations to supervisor.

Review non-Quality paperwork for neatness and accuracy.

Verify the accuracy of labels for all finished product.

Keep laboratory neat and orderly.

Perform daily pre-operation quality inspections of processing areas and calibration of laboratory equipment. Communicate any deviations to Production Supervisor, and verify completion of corrections and corrective actions.

Maintain sufficient laboratory supply inventory.

Ship samples for reference analytical testing within 24 hours of production or as otherwise directed.

Prepare customer sales samples for shipments in coordination with the Sales Manager.

Collect, document, and properly store retention samples for all finished product.

Monitor and record temperatures for all Quality sample freezers, and Laboratory incubators.

Assist in any internal or external inspections as directed by supervisor.

General:

Follow and enforce all food safety and GMP policies and procedures.

Communicate with supervisor regarding all daily events, including achievements, deviations, unusual occurrences, and concerns.

Oversee product quality and integrity throughout production and immediately report any and all non-conformances

Work to maintain above average efficiency throughout the day

Ensure adherence to the implementation and maintenance of any new process or policy

Work with outside vendors to resolve problems as directed by supervisor

Lead by example with regards to performance, neatness, safety, reliability, and following company policies

Inspect food contact equipment after any scheduled or unscheduled maintenance for cleanliness and food safety prior to production use. Report concerns immediately to supervisor and Production Supervisor.

Abide by all safe work practice and safety rules

Maintain a clean, safe work environment by brining all unsafe equipment or conditions to the attention of the supervisor, the Production Supervisor and the safety representative.

Wear all required safety equipment and PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)

Monitor the wearing of PPE of plant employees, ensuring that only safe tools and equipment are used and uphold all lockout/tagout/confined space regulations.

Responsible for reporting any food safety concern and empowered to do so

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE At least 2 years’ college or equivalent work experience preferred. Attend suggested and required seminars and training classes. Must have basic math

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write effective correspondence and communicate. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS HACCP, SQF, PCQI preferred, Driver’s License

The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently maneuver 400 lb. drums and lift or move boxes, cases, and pails of less than 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception.

LENGTH OF DAY/WORK WEEK Approximate 40-hour workweek. Overtime may be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.
