Brief Job Overview
This is a non-supervisory, full time, 3-year fixed-term, research position in USPs Product Quality and Analytical Methods group, division of Digital and Innovation. The successful candidate will lead research investigating applications of chemometric modeling for analytical chemistry platforms with a focus on chromatography specifically /HPLC. The successful candidate will be skilled in analytical chemistry and data analysis and have a strong background in analytical data modeling using appropriate chemometric and multivariate modeling tools and techniques. The candidate will be responsible for both hands-on laboratory research and computational data modeling. This position will work in collaboration with both laboratory and data scientists throughout this project. This position is an on-site, hands-on role that requires laboratory work.

The Scientist IV, PQAM has the following responsibilities:
Analytical Laboratory work
Skilled in analytical chemistry, especially in chromatography, HPLC specifically.
Work independently with respect to the development and evaluation of chromatographic (i.e., HPLC) methods, procedures and data acquisition.
Independently design and execute experiments, provide input on/draw conclusions, and clearly communicate the results with the project team.
Routinely apply personal experience, academic training, and insights to address technical problems.
Collaborate in a team setting to achieve goals.
Experience in the collection and curation of scientific data suitable for data modeling.
Data Modeling
Develop and apply chemometric, multivariate models to interpret scientific/analytical/chemical data. Skilled in at least one programming language with the ability to create prototypes and rapidly test ideas.
Training, Cross-Collaboration, and Continuous Learning
Demonstrate a strong desire to continue learning and proactively seek opportunities to grow personal capabilities.
Participate and/or present at internal and external scientific/project meetings as appropriate.
Collaborate, mentor and train staff in processes, techniques, and use of data modeling tools.
Recommend and implement creative approaches or processes to reach project goals.
Who is USP Looking For?
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:
Ph. D. degree in a scientific field with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
Masters degree in a scientific field with seven (7) years of confirmed experience, or
Bachelors degree in a scientific field with five (10) years of confirmed experience, or
Knowledge, understanding, and hands-on experience with separation analyses such as liquid chromatography (HPLC, UPLC), as well as other general chemistry principles and techniques.
Experience in common laboratory software such as Empower, OpenLab, and Chromeleon.
Skilled in anticipating, troubleshooting and solving technical problems.
In limited circumstances, an equivalent combination of training or special scientific accomplishments is acceptable in lieu of the years of relevant experience.
Machine learning skills in developing and implementing appropriate chemometric models, s and validation, interpreting model output.
Data visualization and modeling skills (ex. matplotlib, seaborn) to effectively communicate complex data insights.
Additional Desired Preferences
Knowledge and hands-on experience of small molecule/biologic/natural product analysis by using complimentary analytical techniques (IR, UV-Vis, NMR, MS is a plus.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multi-layered priorities.
Flexible and concurrent management of multiple tasks.
Experience working in the pharmaceutical, chemical and/or biotechnology industry.
Experience working in GLP or ISO-17025 regulated laboratories is a plus.
Experience working with Electronic Laboratory Notebook Software is a plus.
Ability to synthesize and structure data from multiple sources into appropriate machine-readable formats.
Experience in developing and using multi-variate analysis approaches to data modeling.
Excellent communication skills (written and oral), ability to explain technical or complex issues to non-technical audience.
Experience in descriptive and inferential statistics.
Experience in Python, SQL and/or other appropriate programming languages.

Compensation
Base Salary Range: USD $100,325.00 $126,575.00 annually.
Target Annual Bonus: % Varies based on level of role.
Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidates skill set, experience, qualifications, equity, and other job-related reasons.
