Job Overview:
Join the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit at James Cancer Hospital as a Registered Nurse specializing in Oncology with chemotherapy certification. This position requires rotating 12-hour day and night shifts, with flexibility to work varying schedules as per unit needs. The unit handles complex oncology patients, including those undergoing autologous, syngeneic, and allogeneic stem cell transplants, with a focus on infection prevention and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality nursing care to oncology patients in a mixed acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical (MS) setting.
Administer chemotherapy and manage central lines, ports, and blood product transfusions.
Monitor and interpret telemetry and cardiac rhythms.
Recognize and communicate abnormal lab values and oncologic emergencies.
Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, social services, and rapid response teams.
Follow strict infection prevention protocols.
Flexibly float to other MedSurg Oncology units as needed.
Qualifications:
Licensure: Valid RN license (compact or Ohio state license) required.
Experience: Minimum 2 years nursing experience with at least 1 year in hematology/oncology and medical-surgical (MS) oncology experience.
Certification:
Required: Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification, Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Skills:
Chemotherapy administration and body fluid handling post-chemo
Care and management of central lines, implanted ports, PICC lines
Blood and blood product administration
Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
Experience with graft rejection, graft-versus-host disease, stem cell therapies
Use of rapid response teams
Technical: Experience charting in Epic electronic medical record system preferred.
