Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Water Department Superintendent to oversee the operations, staff, and daily activities of the Water Department. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant delivery of water services while maintaining strong leadership, quality standards, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Department Management
Direct and oversee daily operations of the department.
Assign staff and equipment to projects to ensure timely completion.
Monitor progress on work orders and resolve customer concerns effectively.
Water Quality & Compliance
Supervise water testing procedures in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Collect and prepare water samples for lab testing, ensuring accuracy and proper handling.
Perform chlorine and impurity checks, making adjustments as necessary to maintain safe water quality.
Employee Training & Development
Maintain employee certifications and training records.
Provide ongoing training in safety procedures and update staff on regulatory changes.
Promote a safe and compliant work environment.
Budget & Resource Oversight
Manage and monitor the departmental budget.
Assess capital equipment needs and allocate resources effectively.
Review monthly performance reports and adjust as needed.
Personnel Leadership
Review and approve employee time records.
Manage hiring, onboarding, and disciplinary processes.
Lead, mentor, and support staff to ensure team efficiency and accountability.
Additional Duties
Perform other related tasks as required to support departmental operations.Work Environment
Primarily full-time, year-round schedule with occasional overtime or emergency response duties.
Combination of office work (65%) and outdoor activities (35%), sometimes in varying weather conditions.
Regular exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials.
Moderate stress level, with higher demands during emergencies.Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
1-2 years of experience in water utilities, maintenance, or related field preferred.
Supervisory or leadership experience strongly desired.
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and relevant federal and state requirements.
