The Position

Reporting to the SMART Centre Team lead, this position is seeking a Data Scientist to our lead advanced analytics initiatives working with work with large-scale operational datasets, designing and delivering end-to-end solutions for our clients to optimise their safety and operational performance.

Data Engineering & Architecture: Build ETL pipelines developing scalable data for dashboards and predictive models.

Analytics & Modeling: Apply analytics and statistical methods to predict mining operational performance, productivity, and risk, translating complex data into business metrics

Visualization & Reporting: Build BI dashboards and custom web apps (Power BI, Streamlit, Folium, Kepler.gl, etc.) to communicate insights, easy-to-understand visuals for broad audience

Collaboration & Consulting: Work closely with consultants and client stakeholders to understand challenges and design analytics solutions

About you

This role suits someone with strong data science skills from any asset-intensive industry (manufacturing, logistics, energy, transport, etc.) who is eager to apply them in mining. In addition, we are seeking those with the following skills or attributes.

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

5+ years of analytics experience in asset-intensive industries (manufacturing, logistics, energy, utilities, transportation, or mining).

Strong technical proficiency in: SQL, Python, Geospatial, BI Tools

Proven ability to deliver end-to-end solutions (data pipelines analytics dashboards).

Strong communication skills to explain analytics to non-technical stakeholders.

Proficiency in English, both verbal and written communication.

Desirable not Essential

Experience with mining fleet management systems (HxGN MineOperate OP Pro, Modular, Wenco, or similar).

Hands-on work with IoT data (sensors, GPS traces, telemetry).

Deployment experience with Streamlit/Docker.

Knowledge of operational improvement frameworks (Lean Six Sigma or similar).
