SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Patient Financial Services leadership team the Business Office Account Clerk will maintain and control all uninsured and underinsured patient accounts for services provided in the clinic or hospital settings. They will ensure accurate information is obtained and field within the EMR; including discounts and payment arrangements. Receive payments from patients or insurance companies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Account Management: Maintains and updates uninsured/underinsured patient accounts, insurance details, guarantor info, and supports financial assistance workflows within clinics and hospitals.
Payment Processing & Reconciliation: Handles patient and insurance payments, performs cash posting duties, reconciles payments with statements, and collaborates with Finance for accurate reporting.
Customer Service & Communication: Assists patients with billing questions in person or by phone, maintains professionalism and empathy, and communicates effectively with internal departments like HIM and the business office.
Administrative & Recordkeeping Duties: Scans, sorts, and distributes mail; documents all account interactions in EMR; ensures HIPAA compliance and accurate financial documentation.
Team Collaboration & System Knowledge: Works both independently and in teams, utilizes EMR and bookkeeping systems, and contributes to A/R reduction efforts through aging bucket management and effective coordination.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 1-year clerical experience
High level of interpersonal skills relating to all types of patients and visitors as well as hospital staff

PAY RANGE:$17.10 - $23.10
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
