The City of West Hollywood is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Permit Technician to join the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. In this role, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient use of the City's public right-of-way through the issuance and management of encroachment permits, along with other related technical and administrative functions.
As an Engineering Permit Technician, you will be responsible for handling various complex technical and administrative tasks associated with the planning and issuance of encroachment permits for the City's public right-of-way. You will interpret and enforce engineering codes, regulations, and policies, ensuring compliance with all permit applications and encroachments. Serving as a liaison between the general public, contractors, utility agencies, other governmental bodies, and internal staff, you will facilitate effective communication and collaboration throughout the permitting process. Your role will involve assisting applicants with permit requirements, calculating and collecting fees, and ensuring compliance with all permit conditions.

This position requires 100% On-site work and is not eligible for telework or a hybrid work schedule.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, e.g., 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Reports to: Principal Civil Engineer
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in engineering or related field; and,
Two (2) to three (3) years of progressively responsible related experience including issuing permits at a public counter; or, progressively responsible experience in municipal construction or related field; or,
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
This position is a temporary position and not eligible to participate in any benefit programs of the City except those mandated by federal or state law.
Temporary employees will receive leave accruals based upon actual hours worked with eight (8) hours paid vacation for every 160 actual hours worked and one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every 20 actual hours worked with a maximum sick leave accrual of 40 hours. Eight (8) hours paid holiday time will be granted to temporary employees who have 70 or more hours of paid time in the pay period in which the recognized City holiday occurs.
If an employee reaches 1,000 hours within a fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th), they are then enrolled in PERS (Public Employees Retirement System).
