POSITION SUMMARY

The Assembly Operations Supervisor/CIC (Continuous Improvement Champion is directly responsible for the supervision of takt line assembly personnel to produce a high-quality Bauer product in a safe manner while achieving maximum efficiency and productivity during the systems assembly process utilizing Lean principles. This position reports to the Director, Manufacturing Execution.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Include the following, but other duties may be assigned.

• Direct and manage the activities of the designated takt line personnel.

• Communicate with employees, listen to employees to try and resolve issues as they

arise.

• Involved in the screening, interviewing and selection of new hires.

• Participate in evaluation and counseling sessions of department personnel. Work with personnel to develop solutions to problems identified in these sessions.

• Provide input to determine optimal staffing plan.

• Identify development opportunities for employees.

• Partner with HR department to deliver training for employees

• Identify high potential employees on the team.

• Review, evaluate and propose appropriate compensation package for team members.

• Serve as a positive role model for department personnel in all aspects of conduct.

• Promote all company goals and policies. Detect, correct and report as necessary, any unsafe work practices or acts or unsafe violations of company rules and procedures.

• Exercise discretion and independent judgment using sound reasoning and behavioral

skill.

• Manage and track departmental use of paid time off (PTO) as well as track attendance

of personnel. Address personnel matters relating to attendance/tardiness in a timely manner.

• Conduct meetings with personnel to ensure information regarding policies and procedures are communicated to all, to identify and solve problems and to brainstorm

creative ideas to improve overall performance of the department.

• Demonstrate dependability through commitment, consistency and attendance.

• Determine the most efficient means of correcting problems with personnel or product.

• Support department personnel in their development through communication and training.

• Carryout appropriate personnel disciplinary actions with the support of manager and human resources.

• Assist in the creation and implementation of standards and policies through the

department. Process improvement / lean manufacturing functions include the following, other duties

may apply:

• Take ownership of key processes as applicable to the systems assembly work cells and takt lines. Work with the various stakeholders to in a cross functional manner to

continuously evaluate and improve these processes in order to meet and exceed company's quality, productivity and safety objectives.

• Identify and initiate opportunities for continuous process improvement in a proactive manner within the area or responsibility and lead these activities using six sigma and

lean manufacturing techniques to drive waste elimination.

• Play an active role in developing and implementing KPI visualization within the value

stream area in order to inform and collectively drive results

• Conduct training to direct report takt line personnel in the areas of LEAN Concepts to include KAIZEN, 5S and other LEAN practices.

• Utilize various tools and techniques including resources from the Manufacturing Engineering, Quality and Safety groups within Bauer to analyze and improve relevant

systems assembly processes including designing and developing work cells, performing time studies and optimizing flow throughout the manufacturing process.

• Assure that safety is built into every work process.

• Work with the Manufacturing Engineering, Quality and Safety teams in a collaborative

manner to drive process improvement.

• Play an active role in creating and maintaining routings for relevant products in the

systems assembly area with continuous efficiency improvement in mind.

• Other duties as assigned.

Departmental operational functions include the following, other duties may apply:

• Meet or exceed planned production goals by following and suggesting changes to

production schedules and establishing priorities for department personnel.

• Effective communication with the production planning department detailing potential

scheduling conflicts.

• Ensure that product quality is met within the department in accordance with QAP, OP and Workmanship Standard manuals.

• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements.

• Perform Quality Control equipment verification on all systems prior to leaving assigned

TAKT line.

• Monitor product assembly for verification of conformance to all drawings and/or work

instructions on a daily basis.

• Develop/modify existing assembly instructions/drawings as needed to support efficient

assembly operations.

• Develop and monitor daily department and individual goals.

• Arrive at meetings promptly and prepared to discuss planned agendas.

• Communicate effectively the status of needed parts or anticipated future needs that are

required to produce upcoming product.

• Track, document and implement design/BOM changes throughout assembly process.

• Investigate design-related problems revealed in assembly, test, quality assurance and

service.

• Participate in design reviews for new and modified units as needed.

• Assist in establishing and meeting cost reduction targets through design for

manufacturing techniques. Develop concepts to reduce labor, cost, and lead times.

• Interface with purchasing and various manufacturing departments.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent; OR 5(five) plus years of relevant experience which

would provide the required knowledge and skills and allows successful performance of

the job.

• Minimum of 3 (three) years of experience in a supervisor/leadership role; preferably in a

manufacturing environment.

• Able to interpret assembly, tubing flow, and electrical drawings/blueprints.

• Demonstrated proficiency in reading and interpreting all measuring devises needed for

assembly.

• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Process Improvement concepts.

• Ability to create process flow diagrams and standard work instructions.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ERP systems.

• Must be organized, detail oriented and able to multitask and prioritize demands.

• Self-starter, ability to resolve issues and research solutions.

• Ability to work under pressure and independently with minimal supervision.

• Demonstrated organizational and creative problem solving skills.

• Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively; listen, maintains

confidentiality, speak professionally, and learn process and procedures quickly.

• Strong interpersonal skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Must be able to effectively

communicate with all levels of employees and management.

• Ability to learn, understands, and responds to internal customer needs in a timely

manner.

VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or

Operations Management.

• LEAN Certification preferred.

• Basic knowledge of electrical motor controls and PLC systems.

• Knowledge of compressors and pneumatics preferred.

• Familiar with Autodesk Inventor.

• Able to operate forklifts and powered lifting machinery.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use

of eyes for close vision, use hands, fingers, grasp, handle, reach, listen, talk and may need to

talk on the telephone while taking notes. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to

50 pounds or ask for assistance.

Work conditions may include elevated noise levels requiring hearing protection and extreme

temperatures, both high and low. The noise levels in some manufacturing facilities frequently

may exceed the normal dBA. The employee is required to wear eye and foot protection in the

plant.

Normal working schedule: 6:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Thursday; occasional evening

and weekend hours will be required.
