This California-based company is dedicated to the procurement of international and domestic beer, wine, and spirits for both large and small retailers. The Controller is responsible for leading all accounting and financial operations, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and supporting leadership with accurate reporting, financial modeling, and compliance initiatives. This role combines hands-on accounting management with strategic oversight across the Company's finance, compliance, and risk functions.

Core Responsibilities:

Accounting & Financial Operations

Oversee Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions.

Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements, account reconciliations, and general ledger activities.

Develop and maintain pricing models, including financial models for new distribution plans.

Provide timely financial data and reports to the Company's external CPA for tax filings and audits.

Support the transition from Wells Fargo Bank to American Business Bank.

Inventory & Supply Chain Finance

Manage and track inventory across multiple unit types.

Oversee Purchase Orders, including out-of-state Sales Orders.

Monitor and manage delivery schedules and lead times.

Monitor and apply tariff pricing and related duty structures.

Compliance & Regulatory

Oversee brand registrations in California and other U.S. markets.

Ensure compliance with TTB requirements, including COLA label approvals.

Manage TTB CBMA filings and quarterly refund claims.

Oversee customs clearance processes and ensure compliance with import regulations.

Risk Management & Insurance

Administer all business insurance policies, ensuring coverage is current and updated.

Collect and manage suppliers' Certificates of Insurance (ACORDs).

Strategic Leadership

Partner with executive leadership on financial analysis, expansion planning, and special projects.

Provide compliance oversight and recommend process improvements to strengthen internal controls.

Support long-term business planning with accurate and timely financial insights.

Requirements

Qualifications & Skills

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).

Experience: 7-10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Industry Knowledge: Experience in the alcohol/beverage industry, import/distribution, or consumer goods preferred.

Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance requirements (TTB, CBMA, COLA).

Systems: Proficiency with accounting software, ERP/inventory systems, and advanced Excel skills.

Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage accounting teams, collaborate cross-functionally, and advise senior leadership.

Detail-Oriented: Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a commitment to accuracy.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
