Job Responsibilities

Teach College Success courses to a diverse student body using effective teaching strategies; develop, revise, and maintain course materials; recommend/design new courses and/or programs; maintain office hours; participate in appropriate professional development opportunities; participate in College and community activities, promote the mission of the College; develop/implement retention strategies; assist in graduate placement, attend graduation ceremony; assist with student advising and registration; serve on College committees; promote institutional goals; assist department chair with administrative responsibilities. Teaching may be on any campus, by traditional and or distance learning formats, and may be days, nights, weekends, or a combination.

TEACHING PERFORMANCE - The ability to present course materials through appropriate instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process.

INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT - The development, revision, and maintenance of courses and curriculum through course objectives, outlines, and appropriate materials.

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT - The effective use of required office hours, exhibition of effective classroom management and control, and timely and accurately submitted reports.

STUDENT ADVISEMENT - The participation of the faculty member, when applicable, in assisting students in personal and professional development.

COLLEGE AND/OR COMMUNITY SERVICES - The participation in College activities and the promotion of the College through public service.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - The participation of the faculty member in activities designed to develop professional skills so as to maintain and improve proficiency in his/her present position.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Masters degree in a discipline taught at the college. Experience teaching college success, first-year experience, career exploration or similar courses.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching with technology and/or in online format and experience teaching at a two-year college.

Additional Comments

The faculty member will work as a part of the Transitional Studies team. The instructor may be asked to teach day, evening, weekend classes, or a combination; he or she may be asked to teach on any of SCC's campuses; he or she may also be asked to teach via distance learning.
