Kitchen Team Lead
Full Time Days, 10am - 6pm + Every Other Weekend
We are hiring 2 Kitchen Team Leads, one for Faith Mission - one of the largest homeless shelters in Columbus, Ohio, providing meals and shelter to men, women, veterans with dignity and compassion, and one for CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence in Columbus, Ohio. LSS CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence has been the sole resource for victims seeking shelter in Franklin County for more than four decades, providing a Temporary Emergency Shelter, 24-Hour Crisis Hotline, DV Counseling, Legal Advocacy, Peer Support Groups and more.

What will I do as the Kitchen Team Lead with Lutheran Social Services?
The Kitchen Team Lead is responsible for daily operations of assigned kitchen facilities across Lutheran Social Services' shelter programs, including CHOICES and Faith Mission. The role ensures timely and high-quality meal service by effectively utilizing food deliveries, donations, and available resources. The Kitchen Team Lead supervises on-site kitchen staff and volunteers, and assumes leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Kitchen Manager to ensure smooth, compliant, and efficient food service operations. While typically assigned to one primary kitchen, the Kitchen Team Lead may be deployed to any shelter location as needed to ensure continuity of service.
Prepare appetizing, nutritious, and balanced meals on schedule for residents, ensuring dietary and cultural needs are met.
Support consistent food service operations across all shelter kitchens by collaborating with peers and the Kitchen Manager.
Supervise and direct staff and volunteers to ensure compliance with agency policies and procedures.
Monitor adherence to state and agency sanitation and food safety standards in all kitchens.
Complete and submit required reports, including volunteer logs, daily meal counts, and partner-required documentation.
Maintain organized and accurate paperwork for food service operations.
Monitor inventory, rotate stock, and ensure kitchens are properly supplied.
Receive, document, and properly store food donations, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
Foster a welcoming and professional environment in interactions with residents, staff, and volunteers.
Provide leadership coverage across shelter locations as needed in the absence of the Kitchen Manager.
Perform other duties as assigned to support food service operations at CHOICES and Faith Mission.
Requirements for the Kitchen Team Lead with Lutheran Social Services:
Must have high school education or GED
One-year culinary training preferred
Must have at least one year cooking experience
One-year supervisory/management experience or two years as a lead cook preferred
Two years in food service preparations for large groups
Previous direct service experience preferred
Obtain and maintain ServSafe Certification and other required certifications.
Must be able to work with and for a diverse group of people
Ability to plan and organize multiple priorities
Ability to direct and lead staff
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Must be knowledgeable in quantity cooking procedures and principles
Must be knowledgeable of cooking characteristics of various types of meat, fish, fowl, and other entree ingredients
Have a good knowledge of modified diets, and the preparation of these food items
Must be able to read, understand, write, and speak English
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
Must be able to taste and smell food to determine quality and palatability
