Perform skilled and semiskilled work relating to the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of traffic control signs.
This position will be required to be on call after hours and on weekends.
1.
Install, repair, replace, and remove traffic control signs, markers, and barricades, traffic sign posts, and street name signs.
Set up temporary signing and barricading for detour routes as assigned.
Document activities through work orders and/or mobile GPS device.

Perform sign fabrication tasks, including the application of sign faces to metal blanks and application of reflective sheeting to barricade panels.
Design and assemble custom signs as assigned.
Maintain sign materials inventory and prepare material orders for replenishing stock.

Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning traffic signal control equipment; provide power to intersections with portable power equipment during power outages; repair various damaged signal devices; install or assist with the installation of signal equipment; and modify basic signal controller programs as needed.

Locate and mark various traffic signal underground facilities for the Information Technology Division, locate and mark permanent traffic counter station detectors, and monitor and maintain One Call tickets for utility marking activities.
Verify electronic maps and document corrections for changes as necessary.

Operate and maintain various types of equipment, including pickup trucks, bucket trucks, hydraulic post drivers and pullers, various electronic and computer equipment, and other equipment necessary for performance of duties.

Perform snow and ice control and removal procedures, including plowing, sanding, spreading deicing chemicals, loading trucks, hauling snow, or shoveling sidewalks, or assisting mechanics in the maintenance of snow removal equipment.
7.
May oversee and document activities through work orders and/or mobile GPS device.
Provide instruction to newly hired technicians, including temporary employees as assigned by leadership.
Complete required online training.

Perform other such duties and functions as are necessary or incidental to the proper performance of this position.
Graduation from high school or GED certification supplemented with one (1) year of experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic control devices; or any such combination of education, experience, and training as may be acceptable to the hiring authority.
Must possess or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire a valid Class B commercial driver's license with air brake endorsement.
* Good mechanical ability.
* Knowledge of the use and care of hand tools and electronic test equipment.
* Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of light equipment used in the installation and repair of traffic control devices.
* Knowledge of the procedures used in installing and repairing traffic signs, signals, and markings.
* Knowledge of the requirements of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
* Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and manuals.
* Ability to work at heights and with live power.
* Ability to write reports and understand written and oral work orders.
* Ability to record and maintain written work records.
* Willing to work standby and extended hours in variable weather conditions when required.
