Title:
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Engineer
This is a full-time hybrid work position with travel.
SAI has an opening for a CAD Engineer. Salary range is $90K-$156K/year, depending on skills and experience.
Location is San Diego, CA, hybrid schedule with heavy anticipated travel (50%).
Minimum Secret Level clearance required.
Duties will include but are not limited to the following:
· The CAD (Computer-Aided Design) Engineer for ship systems will be responsible for creating and managing technical drawings and models for the design, construction, and maintenance of marine vessels. They will use specialized CAD software to develop 2D and 3D designs of various ship systems, including mechanical, electrical, structural, and outfitting elements. Their work will ensure accurate representation and efficient production of ship components. Responsibilities - CAD Engineer for Ship Systems:
Qualifications:
Develop and Revise Drawings: Creating and modifying 2D and 3D drawings and models of ship systems using CAD software.
Ensure Accuracy and Efficiency: Maintain high standards of accuracy and efficiency in drawing development and revision, using advanced features of CAD software to minimize installation errors and save time.
Support Engineering Teams: Collaborating with marine, mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers, as well as naval architects, to support various engineering projects.
Conduct Ship Surveys: Participating in ship surveys to document the existing conditions of shipboard systems, including electrical, electronic, and mechanical components.
Coordinate Design Report Authorization: Developing design reports to accompany in-service modifications to ship systems. Coordinate design reports with customer for approval.
Utilize Marine-Specific Software: CAD engineers should be familiar with specialized ship design software like FORAN, and other applications, which encompass all aspects of shipbuilding.
Ensure Compliance: Ensuring that designs and models comply with relevant regulations, standards, and safety requirements.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
· CAD Proficiency: Solid understanding and experience with CAD software, including AutoCAD and potentially specialized marine design software like FORAN or SolidWorks.
· Knowledge of Industry Standards: Previous application of A/E/C CAD Standard and A/E/C Graphics Standard
· Technical Drawing Skills: Ability to create and interpret technical drawings, including ship installation drawings (SIDs).
· Knowledge of Marine Systems: Familiarity with various ship systems (mechanical, electrical, structural, etc.) and their design requirements.
· Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address design challenges and ensure optimal system integration.
· Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders involved in the shipbuilding process.
· Prior military experience, particularly on Navy ship systems, a plus
Education: Bachelor's degree preferred. Associate's degree in drafting or design or equivalent experience acceptable, with additional years of experience.Company Description
