JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under direction of the Clerk of Court, assists in clerical and administrative support serving the judicial branch of the City government; maintains records of the Court as required by law.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: For purposes of 42 USC 12101:
Compiles, types, records, and issues a wide variety of court records, reports, and materials (e.g., citations, summons, warrants, letters, reports, complaints, etc.); creates weekly docket and special hearing docket; coordinates with magistrates, City Attorney's office, contracted public defenders, Police Department and Franklin County Jail; schedules public defenders and magistrates.
Assists the public in person and by phone, including retrieving information and files, and providing general information regarding scheduling of continuances, not-guilty pleas, miscellaneous hearings, appeals, jury demands, pre-trials, motion hearings, issues new court dates; assists the public in problem solving and research activities; answers telephone calls and advises callers of payable amounts, mandatory court appearance, court proceedings and court dates; provides other generalized information.
Accepts payments and verifies insurance on moving violation tickets; accepts bond payments for warrants, bench warrants and bond forfeitures; collects and distributes restitution to local merchants and citizens; performs data entry of payments; ensures that revenues posted balance with reports; prepares deposits for banks; runs reports to balance cash drawer.
Swears witnesses for all trials; processes and prepares cases for the Judge; assists defendants with plea forms, waiver of counsel, waiver of trial by jury, limited driving privilege forms, release of vehicles, and immobilization forms; issues summons, subpoenas and bench warrants on failure to appear and failure to comply cases; assists the Clerk in preparing appeals, jury demands, and transfers and files with County Municipal Court; signs warrants, both in custody or when an officer is going to arrest an individual.
Provide customer service to non-English-speaking individuals by utilizing in-person and electronic translation services; responsible for scheduling translators as needed for court hearings. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable.
Reviews Bureau of Motor Vehicles records to identify requirements to get a valid driver's license and provides assistance to defendants to help them get a valid drivers' license.
Creates reports on the Court's activities and finances.
Prepares general clerical and administrative duties in support of Finance and Administrative Services (e.g., correspondences, letters, memos, forms and reports, filing and light maintenance of office equipment, mail).
Maintains licenses and certifications as required, if any.
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
May be required to work outside of business hours when the clerk is unavailable.

Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school and one (1)
to two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience; or any combination of training, education, or experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Notary Public. May be obtained within 3 months of employment.
