Example of Duties Perform construction duties for capital improvement and/or renovation projects developing or improving wetlands, trails, boardwalks, decks, buildings, grounds, waterways, storm drainage, parking lots, roadways, or other special features such as tree clearing/chipping.

Assist installation of culverts and underground water line repairs.

Perform basic carpentry including rough framing, proper cutting, measuring, and squaring and using proper to tools.

Perform basic concrete work.

Operate a variety of equipment including tractors, skid steer loader, fork lifts, trenchers, backhoes, etc.

Perform routine/preventive maintenance on equipment/vehicles (vehicle checks, change oil and fluids, rotate tires, brakes, plugs, wires, exhaust) and troubleshoot and report problems.

Transport equipment and materials with truck and trailer (requires CDL Class A w/air brakes). Qualifications Education/Experience: Completion of secondary education (high school or GED) plus one year semi-skilled maintenance and repair experience, or one year's experience in construction trades and/or operating heavy construction equipment or the equivalent.

Knowledge of safety practices and procedures, basic building and grounds maintenance methods, principles of construction, equipment operation and construction trades.

Language Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with coworkers and general public on a daily basis.

Mathematical Skills: Basic mathematics skills; ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to carry out instructions and deal with problem.

Ability to work with a minimum amount of supervision is preferred.

Licenses, Registrations: Possession of a valid Ohio driver license; insurable by Metro Parks' insurance carrier, and ability to conform to the driving standards policy as approved by the Board of Park Commissioners.

Possession of CDL Class A w/air brakes preferred.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk and hear, operate heavy equipment, lift heavy objects, operate power and hand tools, drive park vehicles, etc.

The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, etc.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Work Environment: While performing the regular duties of the job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.

The employee spends a portion of their time working in the shop.

The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Additional Information: May be required to read and interpret blueprints and sketches in connection with grading or digging and utility installation and repair; diagnose mechanical failure of equipment.

Ability and willingness to cooperate with coworkers on group projects.

Ability to complete routine forms.

CDL carriers are subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Work Hours: This is an intermittent position that may work through the year as workload and weather dictates.

The big bulk of hours are worked May through November (early December). The hours vary depending on operational necessity, but may include at least 40 hours per week during the busy months with periods of time off during slow/winter months.

Location: Usually reports daily to Office/Shop at Blacklick Woods Maintenance compound in Reynoldsburg.

The location of work will vary throughout the Metro Park district and could require reporting directly to that assignment's worksite.

Supervision Supervision Received: Roving Crew Supervisor and/or Park Tech 2 Supervision Given: None FLSA Status Given the nature of this classification's duties/responsibilities, it has been designated as Non-Exempt under the governing Fair Labor Standards Act and, therefore, is entitled to formal overtime compensation and/or formal compensatory time.
