Description
Semi-skilled work in the use of light to medium equipment in maintenance and construction work. Involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of a variety of equipment used in the construction and maintenance of parks and other municipal facilities; also includes physical labor.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Works under the general supervision of the Parks Superintendent and assumes delegated maintenance duties when assigned.
Operates and maintains light to medium equipment engaged in parks maintenance activities.
Performs parks maintenance such as: welding, patching, paving, crack sealing, seal coating, snow removal using single and tandem axle trucks, sign installation and maintenance, loading and hauling a variety of materials; street sanding and related tasks.
Performs routine repairs as needed and required unscheduled overtime, call back, and scheduled/unscheduled shift changes as required.
Install posts and signs to comply with Federal and State statues and light fixtures and related tasks.
Performs regular equipment inspections and maintains records of all maintenance activity.
Performs assigned labor tasks using various hand and power tools, such as: shovels, rakes, chain saws, jack hammers and other tools.
Perform other related duties as assigned, required or apparent.

Typical Qualifications
DESIRED MINIMUM SKILLS & ABILITIES
High School graduate
Two years' experience in the operation of a variety of irrigation and maintenance systems
Possession of a Minnesota class A (CDL) with tanker endorsement and air brakes.PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Pesticide applicators license or ability to obtain in 1 year
MN DNR Tree Inspector license or ability to obtain in 1 year
Certified Playground Safety Inspector
Low Voltage experience

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Various types of motorized vehicles and equipment including but not limited to: welding equipment, dump trucks, snow plows, pickups, utility trucks, loaders, backhoes, boom truck, asphalt rollers, crack filling machine, portable air compressor, patch truck, skid-steers, tampers, compactors, cutoff saws, distributor, water pumps, air compressors, generators, common hand and power tools, gas detectors, computers, mobile radios and telephones.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
The employee should display speaking skills to effectively communicate with parks staff, other city employees, and the general public. Writing/computer skills are necessary to document tasks completed and to prepare and complete time cards. Reading skills are necessary to read work orders, personnel correspondence and equipment operation manuals and maintenance records.
REASONING SKILLS:
The ability to apply principals of logic or practical thinking are needed to prioritize tasks, solve problems and perform tasks in an efficient and safe manner
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee occasionally works in all types of outside weather conditions. Temperatures will range from the bitterly cold to hot and humid conditions. The employee routinely works in the public right-of-way where there is vehicular traffic and equipment that is mechanically and/or hydraulically powered.
The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
