Job Summary:

Crooked Media is looking for a dynamic, endlessly curious, and innovative producer for our daily news podcast, What A Day. Our close-knit team works hard to keep our news-hungry listeners from falling into the doom-scrolling abyss by giving them everything they need to know to start their day. So if you can break down the latest catfight in Congress without breaking a sweat, or even find the humor in the fight over the debt ceiling - we want to hear from you!

Candidates must be able to work in our LA office Sundays through Thursdays from 10:00AM to 6:30PM, and willing to adjust working hours in the event of breaking news or as other circumstances dictate. We are looking for Los Angeles-based candidates, or candidates able to relocate within the first 3 months of accepting an offer.

How You'll Spend Your Time:

Using your daily news judgment to assist with editorial planning, research, script writing and getting the host prepped for daily shows

Monitoring the news and staying in the loop with what's happening

Booking guests and working with our host on smart approaches and questions

Crafting copy and questions that are clear, snappy, and accurate

Cutting interviews and conversations

Identifying great audio clips to make the show shine

Prioritizing journalistic integrity while balancing Crooked's signature tone and humor

Filling in for the senior producer as needed

Providing in-studio feedback to the host during records. QCing show as needed

Communicating and collaborating across the organization

What You'll Bring To The Table:

4+ years of experience in news, editorial, radio, or podcast production

Demonstrated experience in working within daily or political news environments under tight deadline pressures

Exceptional writing, editing, and research skills, coupled with strong editorial judgment

A track record of booking guests on tight deadlines

A solid understanding of journalism principles and ethics

A sense of humor, even when the news is bleak

The ability to manage and execute multiple long and short-term projects of varying complexities

Proficiency with Descript, ProTools, Adobe Audition, or other audio editing software

A self-motivated, collaborative, creative, and accountable approach

Flexibility and readiness to adapt to change and promptly respond to audience needs

Experience in delivering news and information with a humorous or entertaining tone

Once we're ready to extend an offer, we look at the individual's years of relevant experience and other compensable factors to determine a competitive offer. And for this role, the starting salary is $100,000. This is a position covered under the Writers Guild of America East Collective Bargaining Agreement.
