Compensation: $56,162 - $111,280 (full-time annual)

The certified Bilingual Teacher fluent in Spanish will demonstrate a high level of proficiency in teaching and possess a thorough knowledge of instructional strategies and theory related to

child development and curriculum related to English Learners in transitional bilingual education. The successful candidate will steward the instruction, materials, and implementation of the

bilingual program at three (3) K-6 elementary schools. In addition to providing direct bilingual instruction to Spanish-dominant students, this position will also require daily collaboration with

the school based EL tutors and TESOL Teachers, facilitating program scheduling, and administering student assessment through multiple measures of linguistic progress monitoring.

Another primary function of the bilingual teacher will be the coaching and modeling for classroom teachers of content-based Tier I EL classroom support through differentiated

linguistic instructional strategies that will promote the transitional bilingual program. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing appropriate bilingual instruction and

servicing plans for Spanish-dominant students entering SRBI and for those with Individualized Educational Plans. The successful candidate will work closely with the school-based special

services team to adapt bilingual instruction through accommodations and modifications established in both consultation and PPT meetings. The Bilingual Teacher will collaborate

frequently with district-level EL Coordinators to ensure school-based alignment with the established district-wide EL program, specifically with regard to the adopted EL curriculum,

assessments, and staff development objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

? Plan, organize and provide instruction in English and in the native language of students.

Instruction shall be closely related to and coordinated with the regular instructional

program;

? Plan, organize and implement high quality instruction in reading, writing, listening and

speaking in the native language;

? Design lessons that provide opportunity for problem-solving, creativity, and

communication skills in relations to authentic, real world problems;

? Establish and maintain standards for behavior that foster student self-discipline and

positive relationships among students;

? Commit to ongoing professional development in content areas and pedagogy;

? Foster and increase the involvement of parents and other community members in

support of instruction;

? Perform school-based identification and screening of bilingual program-eligible students,

based on state and district guidelines;

? Communicate to parents of EL status and initial, continuing, or exiting status of bilingual

education (Initial/Continuing/Exiting) ;

? Develop the school-based EL/Bilingual servicing schedule;

? Implement the district EL/Bilingual curriculum based on grade and proficiency level;

? Tier 1 and Tier 2 EL/Bilingual instruction;

? Select and share modification/accommodations for school-based EL students

participating in the bilingual program;

? Collect and analyze school-based EL performance data (curriculum-based and state

assessments);

? Assess ELs through curriculum-based, benchmark, and state proficiency testing;

? Report curriculum-based and assessment performance to students, classroom/support

teachers, parents and principal;

? Coach classroom teachers in the implementation of content-based Tier I classroom EL

instructional strategies and development of EL awareness in school-based instructional

stakeholders using current research, best practices, and materials;

? Provide professional development to teachers individually, grade level groups, and

collectively in faculty and staff meetings;

? Attend school-based student consults, PPTs, and retention meetings;

? Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum

and Instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS AND STRENGTHS

? Required: valid Bilingual CT teaching certificate - (#902 or #009) - Fluent in Spanish;

? Ability to articulate specific knowledge of current theory, best practices, and student

advocacy;

? Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills to lead teachers, parents, and members of

the school community;

? Ability to bring research-based insight to curriculum development in order to improve

student achievement;

? Knowledge of best practice in instruction and assessment;

? Ability to integrate instructional technology resources into district curriculum;

? Ability to read, interpret and summarize assessment results including standardized tests

(including LAS Links);

? Ability to author routine reports, analysis, and correspondence;

? Ability to speak effectively and succinctly before administrators, staff, parents, and

students;

? Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in

situations where only limited standardization exists;

? Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form in English and

Spanish;

? Ability to communally reinforce current instructional practices in and diffuse

misconceptions surrounding ELs.

? Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of

Education policies;

? Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints;

? Prior experience teaching in ESOL, bilingual, or dual language program(s) preferred;

? Master's Degree in Bilingual Education or TESOL preferred but not required;

? Spanish language fluency required; native fluency preferred.
