Purpose To assist in the management major construction, maintenance, and renovation projects within the various parks throughout the Columbus and Franklin County Metropolitan Park District.
Example of Duties Acts as Roving Crew Supervisor in his/her absence.
Assisting in the planning, directing, and coordinating activities of Roving Crew performing construction projects involving grading, drainage, utility installation, maintenance, roadways, parking lots, facilities, trails, etc.
Constructing projects consistent with plans developed by internal and/or external design professionals.
Analyzing processes and procedures and seeking/implementing more efficient methods for improving performance in scheduling and productivity.
Implementing and ensuring adherence to all safety standards.
Supervising Roving Crew personnel, including scheduling, training, assigning and reviewing work, motivating and rewarding employees, conducting performance evaluations, recommending/administering discipline, approving time cards and leave requests, addressing employee issues, etc.
Working with the Roving Crew Supervisor and Park Managers to schedule projects and identify sources to accomplish projects, such as facility renovations, infrastructure improvements, etc.
Assisting in the development the Roving Crew budget and assisting in the development of budgets for renovations and construction projects; monitoring budget expenditures; following purchasing and bidding procedures.
Determining the type of equipment, material, and time required for work projects and scheduling accordingly.
Working along with the Roving Crew and park staff on projects, where/when needed.
Operating heavy equipment as required.
Estimating costs for Roving Crew department projects and assisting other Metro Parks' managers with project cost estimates.
Working with contractors in the performance of their duties.
Making recommendations to the Roving Crew Supervisor regarding major maintenance work on facilities.
Promoting the Park District through public contact.
Overseeing the maintenance of vehicles and equipment assigned to Roving Crew; ensuring proper use and maintenance of equipment; ordering parts; arranging for repairs with outside service companies; recommending purchases of new equipment; performing complex or unusual repairs on equipment as necessary.
Performing special projects and related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in construction or related field preferred and considerable experience in the construction field including some supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures, principles of construction equipment operation, and the latest techniques, practices, materials, and equipment currently used in facility and building construction.

Working knowledge of GPS and GIS systems Mathematical Skills: Ability to deal with symbols in formulas, equations or graphs; ability to prepare meaningful, concise, and accurate reports; ability to calculate fractions, decimals, percentages; ability to recognize errors and make corrections.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and apply construction and management principles to solve every day work problems.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; ability to establish effective working relationships as supervisor of a work unit; ability to read, interpret, and convey directions from blueprints, plans, and sketches.
Licenses, Registrations: Possession of a valid Ohio commercial driver's license of the appropriate class and with the appropriate endorsement(s); possession of Playground Safety Inspector Certification desirable.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, lift, carry, talk and hear, operate two-way radio, and heavy equipment, sit, work with hands, drive park vehicles, etc.
The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to use power and hand tools, complete reports, use computers, phones, etc.
Work Environment: While performing the regular duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.
The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The employee also spends a portion of their time working in a shop or office setting using telephones, computers, copiers, printers, etc.
