Position Overview
The Associate Director of Residence Life is a full-time live-in position responsible for overseeing key operational functions within the department in addition to overseeing a residential area inclusive of student staff supervision. Reporting to the Director of Residence Life, this role manages processes related to housing selection, mailbox administration, student housing data, departmental assessment, and marketing. The Associate Director plays a critical role in ensuring efficient housing operations and maintaining a high standard of service for residential students.
Key Responsibilities
Develops and implements policies and procedures for housing selection, occupancy, room changes, move-in/move-out processes, and residence hall safety.
Oversees the room change process and coordinates Fall and Spring move-in/move-out operations.
Supervise 15-16 Resident Advisors.
Manage daily operations of a designated residential housing area, such as upper-class or first-year student housing.
Manage resident concerns in area and help in developing plans to support students.
Trains Resident Advisors on move-in/move-out procedures.
Serves as co- liaison to the Facilities team and meets weekly with the Director of Facilities alongside Director of Residence Life.
Acts as co-primary administrator for housing software systems (e.g., StarRez).
Leads all housing selection initiatives for the department.
Maintains accurate housing data across five traditional residence halls and residential villages.
Meet biweekly with the Student Experience Systems Administrator.
Manages the department's general email inbox.
Oversees the housing update process for Medical Leave of Absence and student withdrawals.
Collaborates with Assistant Directors on Resident Advisor selection processes.
Collaborate with Key Room staff on key management system.
Partners with the Director on assessment planning and implementation.
Coordinates with the Office of Disability and Access on housing accommodations.
Contributes to the development and implementation of departmental operational policies.
Assists with marketing and communication efforts related to RA recruitment, housing selection, programming, and assessment.
Chairs the Residence Life Newsletter Committee.
Participate in a staff all campus duty rotation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications
Master's degree in a relevant field with a minimum of four years of progressive professional experience in student affairs, with a focus on operational leadership.
3 years student staff supervision experience.
Demonstrated commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement in service delivery.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Proficient in the use and administration of housing management software systems.
Experience in departmental marketing, including electronic communications, social media, and printed materials.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven ability to design and manage large-scale operational processes with innovation and creativity.
Prior experience working within a residential liberal arts college environment is preferred.
