JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Ability to adequately do the following:
• Perform the duties of a medical technologist (generalist).
• Work under the direction of the administrative and medical laboratory directors.
• Work closely with the administrative director, the technologists, technicians, and
assistants.
• Work in all areas of the laboratory and in patient areas.
• Supervise the overall technical operations of the laboratory.
• Be subject to frequent interruptions.
• Be willing to work beyond normal working hours, take emergency call when
necessary and be available either on site or by electrical means.
• Cope with possible subjection to infectious diseases and substances.
• Perform certain clerical duties.
• Assist administrative director in maintenance and implementation of laboratory's ongoing quality assurance/quality improvement program.
• Meets regularly with the Administrative Director of the Laboratory. Reports problems in a timely manner.
• Report laboratory results to those individuals who are authorized to receive results.
• Communicate effectively and deal tactfully with physicians, other hospital personnel, fellow department personnel, patients, and the general public.
• Maintain adequate stock and supply levels.
• Attend appropriate inservice activities and meetings
• Other miscellaneous duties as directed by the administrative or medical director, within the scope of training and ability.
Education and experience:
• Successful completion in an accredited college or university, of a course of study which meets all academic requirements for a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences.
• Must have at least four years experience as a registered or certified medical technologist and preferably two additional years in a supervisory capacity.
