External Candidates VOLUNTEER APPLICATION OVERVIEW Please be aware, there is usually a tremendous backlog for the first few months of the school year, which can significantly delay the processing time.
If you are not planning to volunteer until later in the school year, we ask that you delay submitting your application.
You will need to attached a completed Hold Harmless Form - which is available for download from our Website at You may also obtain this form from the District Office.
After your volunteer application is completed, it will be sent to the school you indicated for pre-approval.
The HR Department will then run a background check through the Washington State Patrol WATCH system.
If it is determined you need unsupervised access to students as part of your volunteer duties, or if you will be chaperoning an overnight or out of state event, you will be also be asked to complete a fingerprint background check with the WA State Patrol and the F.B.I.
Once your application has been cleared, you will be notified by email to make an appointment to have a volunteer badge issued for the current school year.
VOLUNTEER COACHES If you wish to be a volunteer coach, please leave this application and submit an application for volunteer coach instead, as the requirements are different.

DO I ALSO HAVE TO BE FINGERPRINTED?
Volunteers typically only have to go through a fingerprint background check if they are expected to have Unsupervised Access to students (or will be on out of state or overnight trips with students). Most volunteers do not need to be fingerprinted, and will instead have a name and date of birth background check with the WA State Patrol.
Please consult the school principal who will be overseeing your volunteer role to determine if you need to be fingerprinted.

At the end of the school year in which is it processed.
WHAT IF I WORK FOR THE BLAINE SD?
If you are a regular, contracted Blaine SD employee, then you do not need to do anything special to be a General or Unsupervised Volunteer.
HOWEVER - you do need to do a few extra things to be a VOLUNTEER COACH.
