The Winnetka Public School District 36 is looking for a Full-time HVAC Technician.
JOB TITLE: HVAC Technician
LOCATION: District Office
CHARACTERISTICS: Classified employee, 12-month contract
REPORTS TO: Director of Buildings and Grounds & Head of Maintenance
SUPERVISES: In some cases, those individuals assigned to provide additional support
EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the Director of Buildings and Grounds and the Head of Maintenance
OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
Responsibilities include overseeing and performing the maintenance of various pieces of HVAC equipment throughout the District. In addition, conducting daily rounds, performing routine system checks, preventive maintenance, minor system installations, troubleshooting problems, and conducting general repairs to ventilation systems as well as operate, troubleshooting building automation systems. The activities of this position are to provide a safe learning environment for teaching staff and students.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Demonstrate working knowledge of computers and systems associated with HVAC systems
Display a solid understanding in implementation and maintaining preventive maintenance
Have a comprehensive knowledge of HVAC systems, to include EPA controls and regulatory compliance
Possess extensive knowledge of low voltage and high voltage electrical codes in accordance with NEC
Display confidence in communicating technical information to order parts and solicit outside assistance
Capable of ordering parts and material as well as generating accurate and meaningful reports
Proficiency in reading technical publications and interpreting schematics and drawings
Available to respond to off-duty emergencies
Provide support to operations department when needed
Display positive interpersonal communication skills in a team environment in order to create conducive working relationships with effectiveness in working independently
Performs other related tasks as assigned and directed including assisting with snow plowing
Assist the maintenance department with changing filters for classroom unit vents and RTUs
Collaborate with water testing company for testing and adding chemicals to the HVAC systems
Maintain and repair kitchen equipment OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
FBI Fingerprint clearance required.
TB Test within the last 90 days of hire date.
Physical Exam within the last year of hire date.
Mandatory District-wide Compliance Training, as assigned.
General basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical work and carpentry - preferred
High school graduate or equivalent
Type "Universal" CFC certification
Minimum of two years of HVAC experience
Minimum two years experience with building automation controls. EDUCATION/VOCATIONAL PREPARATION
High School diploma with equivalent of two years of college coursework or equivalent in experience and training specific to job description preferred.
Experience in using computers and various computer programs.
Desire to continue career improvement. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Moderate degree of physical stamina and fitness with occasional lifting up to 60 pounds. Ability to move freely to various locations within the classrooms, offices and other community settings. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and bending. Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary will begin at $75,000 (experience will be recognized) with fringe benefits; all will be evaluated annually by the School Board. This position is classified as an non-exempt position.
